Well i recently tried SLi'ing up the 2 7800gt's i have lying around and i must say was very dissapointed...

Yeah ok i scored around 12k in 3dmark05 and around 6k in 06 but games didnt seem at all smoother to play, and whats with not being able to use dual monitors during sli??

The max i can play at is 1280x1024 but i would have still thought there would be a nice increase in fps! If someone had SLI'd my machine up without my knowledge i doubt i'd have even noticed

Was i doing somethin wrong?

Sli really starts to show at higher resolutions.TBH you could probably up the AA and AF and maintain a higher minimum FPS than seeing a massive boost at that res.

Agreed SLI is only good if you run high resolutions (ideally over 1600x1200) or run very high levels of AA and AF.

If you really want to bring a SLI rig to its knees run Quake 4 @ 1280 x 1024 with 16xAA and 16x AF

didnt try quake 4 but i did try fear maxed out with no real noticable increase, same with nfsmw and call of duty 2... :(

1 of my 7800GT 512MB cards isn't powerful enough to run COD2 at 1680x1050 with 4xAA and 8xAF with EVERYTHING turned on.

With both in SLI, then its not a problem to maintain 70+ FPS when lots of foliage and/or smoke grenades are around.

Couldn't game without SLI tbh.

COD2 should note a increase. Maybe not in your max FPS (cpu limited) but it will bring up your minimum FPS to make the game feel smoother.

Fear you will find is a pain. I had twin 7800GTX's and I couldn't get it to run smooth. In fact none of my systems have been able to run it yet they have all been far above the minimum specs. Odd that one.

With SLI just max out your AA and AF options and st back in awe of how good 16x AA does look. :)

I loved my 7800 gtx SLI/Iiyama 454 CRT setup, I've now got a single 7900gtx with a TFT (NEC20WGX2) that only manages 1680x1080 so I've not bothered with another card yet, will definately do so once it starts to struggle. I have to agree with the FEAR thing, it ran like a sack of **** above 1280x1024 even though the timedemo thing reckoned it never dipped below 40fps at 1600x1200.

at 1280x1024 you are really limiting the 7800gt's potential in SLI mode. Those resolutions are really for single high end card or sli'ed 7600gt's.

Do u know the basic commands for COD, like /com_maxfps 999 (whatever u want) but anything over 125 u cannot see a differnce..

Because if u have a default config in cod, the fps will be limited to 80, which is bad and sux a lot..

im not too upset as my leadtek was a very poor clocker, so bad infact that i just ran it at stock!

So far ive got my XFX up to some nice clocks on the core which has made more difference than SLi did! shame about the memory clock tho... i'll keep pushing :)
