Anyone else using ePolicy Orchestrator 4 here?

What daily tasks\checks do you perform?

Virusscan 8.5 or 8.7?

Just intersted really.

Thanks

Yep, it checks every half hour for updates and pushes those automatically out to all our Windows servers. Our Netware Servers won't work that way, so they are set to check the EPO server every 30 minutes for updates.

We are using VirusScan 8.0 and 8.5, but intending to update all the 8.0 straight to 8.7 by the end of the year.

We have our dashboard setup with pie charts for Dat Versions, and a line chart for alerts.

That's about it really, we pretty much just leave it to do it's job and only get involved when a Dat hasn't updated.

Hi

Good to here from someone.

Yes seems Epo seems quite good, much better now its web based.

Just a word of warning. I found moving some low spec systems to 8.5 caused quite a slow down, 8.5 is definatly more resource hungry nit sure about 8.7 though.

Im running 8.7 on about 4 machines just for testing but so far so good. Although you cannot do a remote scan on machines lower than 8.7.

Do you import your structure from Active Directory or use your own manageable groups?

Cheers for the heads up, I'll keep an eye on servers when we upgrade.

We do both, We sync it with AD, but we also have machines outside of AD (NetWare boxes for example) that we have our own groups set up for.

All of which is about a million times easier than EPO3.

We also have all of our Workstaitons/Laptops safebooted due to a minority of people in the public sector losing laptops, the management of this is apparently going to be merged into EPO, possibly in 5.

Running 8.7 on everything here, no problems.

I check my dashboard at least once a day to make sure everything is ticking over, and also the server task log to make sure nothing has failed.

Hi Evo,

Good to hear. I may wait to patch 2 for 8.7 then take the plunge. Manly 8.5 here with the 3.6 Agent. Are you both running the 4.0 agent?

Not sure if you get this but I have some machines reporting on the Dashboard as Blank under Product version and Dat version. This is fixed by finding the machine and re-installing Virusscan and the Agent. Just wondered if im not the only one having to do this so some machines.

Also a cool tool is the McAfee Virtual Technician, it can fix some AV problems without you having to do a re-install.

McAfee Virtual Technician. McAfee Virtual Technician will scan your system to ensure that your McAfee products are installed correctly. This tool will identify possible problems, and help you resolve problems detected during this check-up process.

Sorry about all the questions.

I also look after some XP Embedded systems. I noticed McAfee doesnt support this. Anyone else had this problem to overcome? Most the time it runs ok but can fall over and use up much of the system resources.

Running version 4 agent. tbh I never get any problems with anything so haven't had to do much with it :p

ahh how useful lol

Right, Ive just started a new job and the company in question use Mcafee EPO 4. Now Im used to Sophos. Could someone explain to me how to roll out VSE 8.7?

Ive managed to get the PC to show up under Systems and install the agent. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to deploy VSE to that station

Thanks

Can't remember the exact process but it's just a couple of mouse clicks and you can deploy any of the clients to your machines :)
At home now but might have a poke about tomorrow if I've got time.

No problem, will also explain more tomorrow. Epo is simple but can also become a lot my complex if looking after many machines with different polices and McAfee applications like Groupshield etc..

I'm running the 4.0 agent, I've had a rare problem (Twice in maybe 18 months) with the Windows agent, and had to reinstall it, because it just stopped updating.

On the Netware boxes it's a mor regular occurence, but that seems to have settled down now.

I figured my issue out, It was becasue there was a duplicate entry for the same PC in another group. I ran a duplicates query, deleted the old one, re-deployed the agent and success!

VSE now deployed :)

I'm running EPO 4 here with VS 8.7i with patch 1.

Only supporting 50 odd machines but it's a real time saver. I have a pull task every 4 hours and an update task every 4 hours and on machine startup.

Not bothered with the Rogue System Detection or the AntiSpyware features. Read too many horror stories about the AS and its effect on performance.

On the same box I have WSUS 3.1, so one server handles patch management and AV security. They co-exist well providing you install WSUS first and specify different EPO ports during its installation.

ePO 3.6 on LAN with VS 8.5i

ePO 4.0 in DMZ with VS 8.5i

Project planned to get all onto 4.0 and 8.7i as soon as possible due to Government Connect scheme coming in to Local Governments. Around 250-300 machines in total.
