Random question I know but I remember there being quite an active kidney stones thread on here a while back so thought I would ask has anyone ever had the procedure of a flexible cystoscope done by a urologist?
It’s basically a camera inserted into the urethra and through into the bladder to check for blockage or stones etc. And it’s not even performed under anaesthetic basically a numbing gel is squeezed in and off they go
I have to get one next week and to say I’m crapping myself is an understatement. If anyone has had one could they share there experience of what to expect or pain levels etc?
Thanks

Yes, Jan 2017. The procedure is over in under a minute and doesn't hurt. The prep stings a tiny bit (think mint shower gel on your bits) as it's an alcohol solution literally squirted up there to cleanse and lubricate it...

Don't worry though it absolutely fine, not painful at all and over very quickly.

Thanks for the info it’s reassuring to hear you didn’t find it too bad. I’ve googled around and it’s either the same experience you have had or comments of “it’s the most painful experience of my life”
Is it done in the urologists office or in a room similar to surgery type conditions? And are u given a gown to wear? How is it passing water after it? I’ve seen comments of passing blood to feeling like your peeing broken glass for 24hrs

Its done in a room not to dissimilar to a dentist office but a but darker. Gown to wear is a yes :)

I honestly had no after effects from it at all and "went" minutes afterwards and it didn't hurt at all during or after. I just went home and carried on as normal with no issues at all.

Don't read the Internet especially for medical comments. They are like reviews on Amazon there will always be someone with an issue.
If a hospital procedure is likely to hurt they will knock you out.
Messy on the other hand doesn't seem to bother them. Colonoscopy is pain free, CT scan of lower parts when they fill you up with dye, don't hurt and they don't mind if it all comes out early. Trust them they are used to concerned patients and they are nothing like Carry on Nurse.
Andi.

This is the one time you want it to be cold....Less length they have to push through..Lol

I had 10mm Kidney stone stuck at the end of a 5 mm tube. I was knocked out when they blasted it with a laser so couldn't tell you what it was like going in...

Passing water after blasting a kidney stone causes sharp pain like never before . It feels like passing sand thats on fire... But not for very long. The more you drink the quicker it passes. And it nowhere near the discomfort/pain of a kidney stone.
