we have the brindle bricks on our drive and back garden, not our photo but essentially look like the photo below

i am not at all keen on these bricks as they just remind me of old grannies houses due to the red colour.

i was considering replacing them all together (though the cost is off putting) or I thought about painting them. I've seen some products for sale that renew them to an even worse red, but also some that suggest you can stain them another colour, however my concern is how well it actually works and how long it lasts.

hoping someone on here may have done something like this or at least know of someone else that has and how it came out and also how long it lasts. Does the colour fade, chip off etc.

You can stain them
Though not going to come out perfectly uniform
If they have been sealed you would have to remove the sealant first
Some people just replace with coloured concrete
Though obviously costs more than stain
You can even make your own stain
Water based exterior paint, water and sealer in equal amounts and mix it

They look absolutely fine. Just use a jet was with a patio cleaner on it to bring them up well and maybe a clear protective coat. If you have a lot of it like in the photo it would be better to remove some in places such as under the windows, around the perimeter and maybe if there's room off center to make some plant borders or raised beds. Top these off with bark and it will help soften the municipality of it.

As mentioned paint will peel and look terrible, either stick with them or replace them all with something you want.

Never seen a red old grannies house, they just remind me of a block paved driveway that you see on hundreds if not thousands of drives in every town in the country.
