I'm curious if anyone on here has ever let out a spare bedroom in your home. I have purchased a 3 bed semi earlier in the year and rattling around in it on my own, the idea came to me to let a room. I'm not stuck for the money but it could help cover mortgage or drop it straight into overpayments

I reckon it can make £200 a month plus maybe 30 splitting bills, per month, and split heating oil as and when needed. There seems to be a demand as I placed a advert to test the water

What's people's feelings on this. I'm 29 single male and odly enough 2 females have asked, not what I expected tbh.

Well one of the potential tenants is my age and seems to be... On my level. If that makes sense. After some email swapping

The other, I have no info on yet..

I only would let one room,

If anything, I'm possibly more tempted to let to a stranger as letting to a friend could become more complicated and brings feelings/friendships into it, would be harder to possibly enforce my house rules

i made the mistake (worth it tho haha!) of renting out a room in my 2 bed flat years ago to a rather hot chick. She somehow found me irresistible (playing fifa in my dressing gown might have done it)....bit of a rollercoaster ride and of course she was mad as a hatter but hey what one aint?! (all the juicy details im sure are in one of my threads exclusively here on OCUK)

Pics not going to happen. Calm yourselves I'm after some actual experience not people getting there rocks off on this ideal fantasy lol

I rent one of mine, working fine other than he is way more untidy than me.

Remember to notify your mortgage and insurance company, I had to change to another instance company as they wouldn't cover whilst there was a non family member in the building.

Council tax too. OP would no longer be eligible for the 25% single occupation discount.

I've done it the other way round, where I was a lodger for a year. 3-bed house where landlady and I had the 2 master bedrooms each (same size) then the 3rd bedroom was just a junk / storage place. I paid £210/month incl. bills back in 2001. Just telephone/internet I had to sort out myself. Advert was in the local rag. Shared bathroom and kitchen, but it worked out well as she was out most of the time, and we got on very well when we were both in too.

£200 a month? Bloody hell.

When we rented ours out it was 700 a month.

Which I wouldn't do again tbh. Too many issues.
