As you can see my GTX275 is missing a capacitor (Bought it of a friend as faulty) and was wondering if anyone had ever replaced a capacitor on a graphics card before and how difficult was it to do? Also is the capacitor I need to replace 270uf 16v? (Sorry the pic showing an intact capacitor is upside down :p).

Am I right in thinking one of these would be a suitable replacement?; http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1831269 (Just remove this if it's classed a competitor somehow :p).

I used a heatgun to remove and replace bad caps its fairly simple.

Heat the under side of the card at the spot of the area you need to heat up, While keeping the new cap pressed in the holes untill the solder softens and the new cap easily pops through.

Would be good if you can find a solid caps.

What's the difference between solid caps and regular capacitors? Oh, and just to confirm before I buy it is 270uf 16v I need right?

Sorry about all the questions, I'm just so confused when it comes to this kind of thing!

Solid caps last 3 times longer than normal radial ones.

If the old cap has them marking on it? Its best to replace with the same ranking.

Yes, if that's what the dead one was. If you can't read the info on it, it probably is the same as C141. Anyone got the same card and could take a look?

Yes.

No probs :)

There is some risk that the heat will loosen other components on the board, soldering irons aren't that expensive :)

Another method is to use a sewing needle heated up on a hob, you have to be fairly swift though :) You'll need pliers as well ;)
