Anyone experienced a VIP package for a concert?

Hey all,

I'm looking at booking to see Jean-Michel-Jarre in concert and since he is one of my all time musical heroes from a very early age and also I cannot be doing with crowds so much, I'm heading towards one of the expensive VIP type affairs.

There are 2 levels available with about £130 difference in cost of the ticket price between them.

The main difference is that the top package has "Pre show drinks reception" and "Meet Jean-Michel Jarre and have your photo taken together" included.

Whereas the second tier has this in the way of hospitality: "VIP check in with host in attendance "

Also the top tier provides a seat in the first 3 rows, the lower tier has a seat in the 4th row.

Anyone ever experienced one of these type 'value added' tickets and is it worth the extra cash (I will be buying 2xtickets so worth £250 to me) for the top one?

Yeah, imagine how many people will also buy the value added ticket and how much time you'd actually spend with them.

The same at MCM style conventions, £35 quid for an autograph and a hand shake, literally 30 seconds for the whole thing.

I did this a couple of years ago. Me and a mate are Big 5ive fans, never got to see them live back in the day though. They did a tour after their success on the big reunion and on offer were VIP tickets which included merchandise, pre-gig meet and greet along with photo and also your choice of seat on the front row.

Was worth paying £120 more than a standard ticket :D It's one of those things that you do once and it's worth the memories :D

Best bit though, I actually got the mic given to me and i got to sing a line. Yes, for that one moment I had replaced Jay as the new 5ive member, lol.

If you want it, go for it. You'll meet them in person (usually a brief encounter to be fair) and have one of the best seats (view wise) in the place.

they are a con and usually garbage, only true VIP experiance you will get is with one of these, on this day I met Eddie Vedder and his step brother who was celebrating his 50th birthday, fantastic day.

Wish I'd had the chance of something like that at the Destination Docklands concerts... still the best gigs I've ever experienced, but VIP status would have just been the icing on the bloody wet cake! Don't think I'll ever see another light show and firework display as good, unless I'm at ground zero when the nukes drop...

Do it I say.

My friend Andy is a MASSIVE Rush fan, I really can't exaggerate how much money he has wasted on this band. He even has two rooms in his house devoted to Rush merchandise and has boxes and boxes of unopened merchandise. When he goes to a concert he'll look up at the wall and say "1 of each in XL plus all the other stuff".
He will also buy the pirated merchandise outside.
Anyway, for around the last 10 tours Rush have done in this country he has bought VIP tickets for all the concerts they play on that tour so he thinks it's worth it.
I think he wants his head looking at.

Sooooooo ... OP, don't do any of that unless you are also facing this abyss.

I'm struggling to coherently verbalise the reasons why, but I can't help giggling at this post :D

That's awesome!

I guess it depends on how much you want to meet him OP. If this was me, and I was seeing my idol and had the chance to meet him, I'd throw anything I had at it. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity really.

it's ok, I'd be jealous of me in your position as well.

The only downside was finding a video on youtube of that gig...at the time i thought i was pitch perfect when i sang my line, in reality it sounded like a dozen cats drowning :(

My wife has had two vip sets of tickets to Gary Numan concerts once at leeds and once in exeter.

The whole meet and greet, sound checks, he spent about 45 minutes with the 6 people on his tour bus and some other stuff was thrown in cds, tshirts, posters all signed and dated. Then got front row area at the concert.

Was good value for money for her to spend that much time doing all the stuff.

Yeah I used to work as a waiter for such things. The pre-drinks reception is pretty much as it sounds, its a room with a bar and fancy ambient lighting, probably with a glass of free bubbly. I worked at a football stadium, and the guests would be taken to seats away from the regular people to avoid the crowds.

Wait, you're not joking are you. 5ive? Seriously?

I can't imagine any VIP package is worth it to be honest.

Complete and total waste of money. The merch is usually crap anyway and anyone who pays to meet a celebrity is just strange.
