Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a spec for a system, i need a base unit, monitor, keyboard & Mouse for £650. The main use for this system will be general day-to-day work, photo editing/management and some casual gaming. I've done a couple of specs myself but I'm rather behind on the current trends, been looking at an E5300 with 4gb Ram and possibly a 4830? Anyway I'd really appreciate it if any of you could spare five minutes to lend me a hand. Thanks in advance,

mine for the graphics power, his for more cpu grunt :)
 
i just think theres more value in mine:D u get a bigger hard drive :D plus u could always jus upgrade the graphics in the spec but it mite go too over budget for u plus photoshop using lots of graphics power????

I was goingto build a pc spring last year but saved up
For a bit. On old pc found a spec me image of proposed build the E8400 was £114 including vat :-0. Now £150!!

Plenty of money left to either to upgrade either the CPU or Graphics card, if it is more photo editing go for CPU, you could stretch to a Q6600 i think, but if more for gaming a 4850 would be great instead of the 4550.
There is only a 320GB Harddrive though you may want something larger a 640GB Sammsung is a good choice.
 
Ok the specs above are great and I'm considering all of them, but for a bit of an extra challange, can anybody reccomend an M-ATX mobo/case alternative? Really apperciate the advice, really not up to date with the latest chipsets :(

That looks a great spec for the money, do you think it'll be capable of running something like the sims 3 at medium settings @ 1680x1050 when it is released? (I know you can't know for sure, but is that card alright for light gaming?) If not might drop the processor down the 3.00ghz version and put the extra £20 into the graphics. Should be able to get a decent 20-22" monitor too for under £650 in total...
