Anyone flown through Amsterdam Schipol airport this year?

I'm hopefully going on a work trip in September, just wondering if all the chaos of 2022 is over? We all got caught up in it last year, was an absolute shambles :o

Can't be bothered with the Eurostar, it always takes longer overall in my opinion.

I was there at the end of May — took ages to get through passport control (thanks, Brexit).

My departure gate was miles from the entrance and the food options in the terminal were pretty limited.

But apart from that it was no worse than any other major airport.

Had zero issues coming into Schiphol in June but going out we spent nearly 1 hour 45 mins in the bag drop queue for Easyjet and were panicking about having to get to the gate. In the end a cancelled flight to elsewhere and a delayed incoming flight for us meant we had no problems. But that was entirely Easyjet's fault and security was fine. Spent a while at Schiphol waiting for the flight home and didn't see any issues.

Are you planning to smuggle some wacky backy through customs and you're trying to decide if the safest route is land, sea, or air...

My recommendation - allow LOTS of time to get through boarders/ security.

Went through Schiphol last week with the family. Flew from UK early evening so arrived Intl side and hit a very long queue at Customs. We only had 30 mins to catch the connecting flight and had to acess EU domestic departures side to transfer.
They did open a priority for the urgent onward flights, but we still had to sprint through to the length of terminal D and it's not small.

Going the other direction again late yesterday, absolutely no issues going from EU to Intl departures side. Also helped that we had a 3 hour stopover.

Never had a problem flying through Schiphol must have used it inexcess of 20 times.
This year?

Ha, no. I’ve only ever had my bag swabbed once- fingers crossed!
Daughter did a trip to the dam after finishing A levels and there were no issues at Schipol for their group. Just a looong walk to the gate as sleazyjet were nearly in Belgium !

Yeah it’s a massive airport. I’ve been through quite a few times and always have to remember to head to the gate as soon as they call it. I’ll be travelling light though, definitely won’t be checking a bag or anything.

I got lucky with the chaos last year. I’d flown with KLM as they codeshare with Virgin (I use Virgin for work and have miles). We’d all heard the horror stories of 6hr queues etc so when we got there I’d just joined the queue inside and noticed a sign for express security (sort of for business class I think). They had various logos on the sign, including for Virgin. Since at that point I was a Virgin silver member I went and asked if I could go through and she said yes. So all of my colleagues waited for 3-4hrs in the end (most missed their flights) whereas I was through and had 3hrs to kill at the bar :o :p I barely had the heart to tell them afterwards lol

I’m bloody well mentally scared standing for 8 hours in that place after we missed our flight (because of the 4 Hour queues for security, then another 4 hours in the klm customer service as they found us a hotel for the night for the flight next day) last year.

came back from there last week from a work trip, it was unmitigated chaos. I regret not taking Eurostar especially as Centraal is only a 5 min walk from my office over there. God knows why they booked me on the flight, it's not even a case of it was cheaper as I flew BA out of heathrow

Hmm mixed reports then. Why was it chaos? Did you have to queue to get through security coming home again?

I used AMS just over a week ago and it was absolutely fine both in and out. That was with BA and Air France.

As for the Polderban, I've landed on it numerous times and the taxi time is typically around 15 minutes.

I know AMS has been suffering but as with most airports, your whole experience will depend on whether you're travelling during a busy wave or not.
Personally, I can't be doing with first wave departures anymore and prefer to travel later in the day.
