Anyone from Milton Keynes

What criteria are you using to label MK as a **** hole?

It's devoid of character, bland, soulless and samey. The houses/flats near The Centre MK are an utter eyesore. The crappy bits are really crappy - Greenleys and Galley Hill spring to mind. The nice bits are nice enough I guess but still not for me.

As I said though, I don't mind living near it. The shops are pretty good, I really like the Chinese supermarket in Bradwell Abbey for example. I like the roads too, I know the place well enough that I can divert and am very rarely stuck in traffic.

I agree there are some poor areas but that can be said of almost any town or city.

Having no character or "soul" doesn't make it a **** hole though. What it does, it does well.

Also the sights of MK from the grid roads aren't useful to knowing what MK is like. There are lots of old parts and interesting places to visit.

Without wishing to seem pedantic, I called MK a 'hole' not a '**** hole'

We've obviously got different opinions of MK. Having lived near it for 40 years (and worked in it for about 10 years) I've never once thought that I'd like to move there. Quite the opposite, when I have moved house I've made it clear to the estate agents that if they send me a property in MK I will not even look at the brochure.

Fundamentally I'm not someone who likes big towns or cities. And whilst I like the way the grid system makes it easy to get around I also find that unless you know your way aroun the place is very disorientating. That's not condusive to me forming a positive opinion of the place.

You realise 'hole' is just a shortening of **** hole? :p

I'm not saying MK is amazing, I just disagree with your opinion which you're perfectly entitled too. It does sound like you have a bias towards not liking towns and cities in general. I've lived in MK for 35 years and know it very well, it's a great place for many reasons.

If I wanted to say it was a '**** hole' then I would have said that. The ****'s make the statement a lot stronger and whilst I don't like Milton Keynes it's not a complete **** hole. I maintain that it's a hole though. Interpret that as you wish.

I did say that I'm not fond of towns or cities, but my dislike for MK isn't on that basis. There's town and cities that I quite like and would consider living in. Milton Keynes is not one of them, my dislike for MK is purely down to the MK-ness of it.

We clearly have different opinions. It would be an extremely boring world if everyone had the same opinion.

Sounds like you'd like David Lloyds fitness club.

Cinemas are some of the best in the country in MK. Cineworld with superscreens and 4DX and Odeon with iMax.

Yer , I am a member of David in London. I have looked at other places closer to London the prices are far too expensive to purchase a decent property.

I am not sure why people dislike a town that is different from most other towns.
What I do like about MK are the nice straight roads, the openness and integration between structure and wildlife.

It would if it was actually in the estate, but it's in its own estate and you'd never know it's there.

House prices are pretty strong in Oxley - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77953276.html

There some nice home there, the designs are nice but some of the layouts inside are a bit ridiculous

I lived in MK for 17 years in Newport Pagnell (Decent high street) and in Monkston which is a nice place to live and has a good school which my son still goes to. However I now live in a village just south of Bedford and prefer it here. House prices are cheaper and the train line is handy as you can get on at Bedford and go direct to Brighton. The line also goes through the City of London which is good for my work when in the London office, instead of changing at Euston which I had to do from MK. MK takes a bit of getting used to but I was quite happy there, just prefer where I live now. I can get in to central MK in 15mins along the A421 and Cambridge in about 25mins (Will be quicker when the dual road from Black Cat gets built).

Edit - And I love London, it's one of the worlds leading cities and actually my favourite and i've travelled quite a bit. However to live it would be a different story I will accept that, you've have to have a lot of money to be happy in London I can imagine.

Interesting which line goes to the city and which station.

I live in one of the best areas in London, but I still hate what London has become. I have really started to dislike the people in London now.

This is why lot of all Londoners are leaving London these days.

@ZeroSight some of our friends have moved to Marston Moretain and like it there, decent prices.

Yeah it's not bad there with a country park on their doorstep, plus it's quick to get in to MK and right near the M1, just a bit too far from a mainline station though. But that doesn't matter for a lot of people. Oh and having Captain Tom Moore as a neighbour must be pretty cool :-)

Where I am as well on the Midland Mainline in case if there are issues with that line you can either go on the East coast main line and have a 10 minute drive from Sandy or go on the West Coast mainline and have a 15 - 20 min drive from MK.

Caldecotte lake, also last week:

Fun fact: MK has more shoreline than Jersey.

Lots of nice spots on MK if you know the area. A few minutes from my house, we have the Blue Lagoon. I was speaking to the local diving club there, under the water they have a bus, 4 cars, parts of a plane and a few boats. Pretty awesome, they meet every weekend to dive.

Taken today on our walk.

Lived here since 89 , started out in the Lakes estate , Netherfield then Fishermead before moving to Linford Village which is just on the outskirts .
Was lucky enough to have bought my house in th late 90's as no way could i afford this area now.
Its an aquired taste you either like it or hate it , after living in the Scottish borders for 15 years i prefer here.
Oh and no way would i live or recomend anyone live in the 3 estates i first mentioned as they are some of the rougher estates.

Paris is a dump. Barcelona pretty nice cleaner. Zurich nice. The others aren’t really known to be world leading cities.
I would move to north Europe but lack of Sun.
I’d live in Barcelona we were thinking about moving there.
Melbourne is routinely and repeatedly in the top 3 cities of the world. Cape Town also features heavily, as does London.

Requesting mod name change to Mrwrong.

2nd. that, Melbourne is by far one of the best places in the world I've ever been fortunate to visit. It's unfortunate it was just a visit, I would go back quite quickly if I could, ideal place for the family & work. God I hate Dudley :D
