Anyone game with ECC memory?

Was reading that, contrary to prior consensus, ECC mem does not cause a significant performance hit, and in some cases may even perform better than non-ECC mem.

But obviously the main point of ECC is system stability, and prevention of data corruption. Some people have suggested that ECC mem should really be standard these days.

Since consumer Intel CPUs don't support ECC at all, I guess only people with Xeons or AMD CPUs can answer this...

I guess it's not very exciting, but if left me wondering how many program crashes would have been prevented by using ECC ram over vanilla stuff. And whether anybody is using it in a gaming rig.

There are some using ECC memory with their Xeons with no issues.

It would be good if all consumer grade hardware moved to ECC in the future, I agree. Though it will probably only prevent a crash every 20 years or so, under most workloads.

Tho from what I read, as transistors get smaller, it's easier for them to be unintentionally flipped.

Author of said article was saying that below 10nm it could become an issue, necessitating ECC in everything.

I have no idea if that's true or not.
