My home internet is RUBBISH so thinking of using a 4g connection instead.. anyone here gaming via 4G? what't the latency like for any PvP type of games (Destiny specifically).

A quick speed test on my phone gives 17ms ping 54.12 mbps down and 23.83 mbps up, that is with a different carrier but I assume it will be similar.

Not too shabby! How would you connect the console? You could probably tether it to your phone now to check how well it works, but that wouldn't be the best long term solution. Can you get cheap 4G data plans where you are? There wouldn't be too much data transfer involved in just MP gaming I would have thought (downloading games and maps and stuff is different) but have not measured it myself.

I used to game on 3g back in 2008 via a usb dongle plugged into a 3g router, had no issues at all and it was surprisinlgy responsive.

I did a whole Iron Banner on Destiny using 3g via my mobile. It's actually very good. Destiny's client authority netcode works extremely well for you as the client, although the same could probably not be said for the other people you're playing with.

Pretty sure I did a raid on 3g as well, no problems. 4g would be totally fine.

The latency would be awful. 4G connections would be rubbish for any type of multiplayer gaming.

Nope, spent a few weeks playing destiny via 4g and in a good signal area you can't tell the difference over broadband. In a bad signal area though you get dropouts and disconnects which is annoying.

4g can be done at a decent price here in Melbourne, it's actually $10 cheaper for unlimited 4g data than what I pay for my 6mbps ADSL2 connection. As for connection, 4g home routers are common over here. There basically the same as your DSL router with 4 nics and a wireless access point.

It's a good idea to teather my phone as a test, I think I'll do that tonight as an experiment..

I used 4g to play Destiny for a month on a 3 unlimited tethering plan, I didn't do any raids as I didn't want to be a liability in case of signal drop but it was fine for a stop gap.

4g is a great temp solution

my phone gets better speeds latency and stability than the majority of my friends home connections.

this would be a permanent solution, I'm thinking of removing my ADSL connection all together.

I'm going to be on 4G for a while when I move until BT turn the street on (new build).

I played Destiny with a friend and I found out a few days ago that he is using 4G, no issues at all.

Seems that mobile broadband has come a long way for gaming.
