Anyone get a psp slim?

Grumble ~~~

Some of you miss the point with TV output.

Lets assume you have a PS3 and its in for example a living room, perhaps the TV in the living room is being used by someone else.

With remote play and the PSP my gathering is i can control the PS3, view/listen to my multimedia on it and even download/browse the web or PSN from the PSP.

Now the point im reaching is ts possible to NOW via the PSP connect to another TV in a different room using TV Output in effect like a wireless video sender. So if for instance i have Tv episodes , movies or a wide range of content on a PS3 like a HTPC then it could be a rather nice feature allowing the content of my PS3 to be viewed on a Tv in a different room.
Additionally with large sized memory cards now available the PSP could act as a easy way to go round to a friends house and watch/view the content transferred to memorycard and displayed fullscreen on his tv with the TV out facility, saves having to burn a disc etc

Yes, except the PSP only supports crappy resolutions. That's why it's a bit pointless. Content on a TV will look like a pile of cat turd.

Also, you can't remote play with someone else using the PS3 unfortunately.

I might trade my PSP in for one of these new slim jobbies, assuming they give me a half decent trade in price.

Gotta get one of these when I'm in America, October is going to be expensive, iPod Touch 16GB + PSP Slim!

Guessing the PSP is only about £90 in America though.

Thats why i asked earlier if the HD videos off PSN played ok being descaled.
Also something like an Xvid video resolution is pretty close to the SD res tv ouput so it would be nice to eventually find out if the qaulity does indeed suck, PSN will for sure as will internet surfing but hey im eager to know.

According to gamespot the TV output aint bad,

The video output also works well. Sony added a new "Connected Display Settings" menu item for managing the PSP's new video-output capabilities. The "Switch Video Output" option toggles the video output between the PSP screen and the external display. You can also toggle the display by holding down the display button right below the PSP screen. The "TV Type" option lets you set the display to 16:9 widescreen or the normal 4:3 aspect ratio. The "Component/D-Terminal" setting lets you select between progressive or interlaced video out when using a component or D-Terminal cable. The menu also offers the option to enable a screensaver that will kick in after five, 10, or 15 minutes.

We played a Dodgeball UMD on our 37" Westinghouse HDTV. We had to fiddle with the video settings to get the picture to fill properly, but the video worked fine after we set everything up. We'd recommend using a native 480p or 480i display for playback, given that upscaling the video to HDTV resolution isn't going to give you the best picture. We do have to say that the video looked fantastic when we plugged the component cables into a PC to capture images. Our test system included only the component AV cables, so we weren't able to see how the regular composite cables perform.

I've got a friend who's just bought one - he cant find any TV out cables though - anyone seen any ?

Also - he wants to use headphones - can he use any or does he need a PSP specific one ?.

Cheers.

I got one of these a couple of days ago. I also bought both GTA Vice City Stories and MGS Portable Ops for £25. I am sure they will keep me busy for a while.

I still have the old one so I am still in awe at how much lighter and slimmer it feels when in your hand.

Was gonna hold out and get the Darth Vader themed one from USA but
a) it is white
b) this new star wars game it comes with looks crap.

Overall very pleased.

Edit: Anyone with the TV out cable tried Mr Latte's idea? Sounds like a good idea, if it works.

i got one. my first PSP infact. no dead pixels, battery life is decent. its nice. made the mistake *cough* of putting the 3.71 firmware on there, but hey ho :D

anybody tried the 2600mAh batteries? also, is your umd drive a little noise when playing with the volume down? its quite noticable lol. other than that, great. nice functionality with the ps3, got a 4gb scandisk pro duo for £20 as well. bargain.

yeah i actully just looked at some pictures. i didnt realise they used different batteries lol

I read that you can use the older PSP batteries, but they just stick out and you can't cover the battery case.

Are we saying the ones from the older PSPs are higher capacity (ie last longer?).

I have both PSPs so may see if it fits later.

I think the default batteries in the old and new ones are 1200mAh, but there are several 3rd party batteries that are a higher capacity but AFAIK they are all too thick to allow the cover to be on.

I guess it will take some time for them to release a higher capacity battery for the slim PSP
