Here are some Quake 4 scores already done by firingsquad (would have linked to site page but OcUK competitor) using X1800 XT with Catalyst 5.13, due to nVidia dualcore driver bug:

I have installed Quake4 v1.05 dualcore patch and tried the guru3d benchmark & match their settings with 1x7800, x2 @2.75 /250bus I get 180fps with SMP enabled or disabled.
Also someone with 1x7800, fx57 @3ghz /200bus get 160fps.
I don't know how fast the 1800 is in Quake 4 but does my dualcore score look correct  as the SMP option has no effect.
Ps. Anyone know how to disable nVidia dualcore driver patch ?.

Dual core will only improve game performance in cpu-limited circumstances. A fact that is sadly overlooked far too much. As you will notice the above benchtest is @ 800x600 to make it cpu limited.

As you are probably playing it @ 1280 or above you won't notice the improvement as much as that game is gpu limited. At 1600x1200 you wouldn't expect to get much or any improvement.

"..The benefits of enabling SMP support on our dual-core system are immediately apparent across all resolutions up to 1280x1024, where the game begins to become GPU limited and thus the performance gains slip away. The lower resolutions exhibit an advantage of between ten and twenty frames per second."

Just as Dirk states. Once you start using higher resolutions with AA & AF, the vast majority of games with be GPU limited so that only a very slight difference will be seen between very fast overclocked CPU's and moderately fast un-clocked ones.

I do play at 1280 so suppose dualcore 2.4 is as good as singlecore at 3.

And dual-core 2.4 is as good as single-core 2.0 which is as good as dual-core 3.0 etc, under gpu limited conditions.

i.e my own overclock took my pc from 2.6Ghz cpu/200Mhz ram to 3.0Ghz cpu/300Mhz ram. Very nice benchmark improvements but absolutely no difference in the games i play. (CS:S, COD2, other assorted shooters)

Games that are cpu limited are the likes of Rome-Total War where there are a large number of A.I characters. These are the games that will benefit from dual-core enhancements even at higher resolutions.
