It looks to have decent performance at stock speed but unlike the previous socket 1156 Core i3 processors cannot be overclocked that much it seems. Considering that even with a lower end socket 1156 motherboard you could probably get a Core i3 540 to around 3.8GHZ to 4GHZ does the Core i3 2100 interest anyone on these forums??

Well I run my i3 540 at 3.8Ghz with a motherboard that only cost about £63, so that's under £150 for a motherboard/cpu that runs anything I do perfectly.

So I won't be changing to a Sandy Bridge i3 setup.

I think I might go for one of these chips later in the year for a HTPC build (the 35W 2100T specifically). Its a low power chip (ideal for some passive cooling) and the onboard GPU should be plenty for HD video decoding.

That said, I am looking forward to the reviews of the AMD fusion chips and certainly won't be buying the system before they come out. They may well be able to do the same job but cost less to buy and use less power.

if you're spending the money why go for a dual core these days? yes there is the 2 v 4 cores debate for every day use and gaming etc but you'll be looking at regular multi core applications 12-24 months from now so if upgrading now why spend money on dual core when multi core(4) will be the norm

Good point which means that AMD have a good market niche ATM with the Athlon II X4.

I personally think the x4 AMD offering will become the new budget bang for buck bet. IMO dual cores are going the way of the single cores and will be out of sight in the next 18-24 months.
