I've just been to the open day and im extremely tempted by the Aerospatial Engineering sides of things! :D :D

Just need to talk with someone about life, best place to get accommodation etc etc :)

Kreeee and Psyk will be able to help you out :)

Life there is great, it's really near to the centre so you'll have a lot to choose from for nights out.

Bristol Engineer here.

Superb engineering faculty with generally excellent teaching (there's always a few exceptions). Great study abroad links too.

Bristol is a cracking city with great pubs and nightclubs (to suit all tastes) too.

As for accommodation you've got two choices: Stoke Bishop or Clifton. Here your choice is clear: 10 mins walk or 35 mins walk. Because everyone can choose halls there is a definite type at each hall. Wills and Goldney are seen as posh and a bit rah, whilst the skankier and cheaper (Hiatt Baker, Badock) you go people tend to get a bit more down to earth; don't get me wrong you'll find very safe people at both, but don't let anyone tell you that certain halls don't have certain types of people.

Personally I think Badock is a good bet, its nasty enough that people party hard, good mix of people, but not as bad as Hiatt Baker which I've heard has got really run down in the last few years.

Im looking for self catered, en suite preferably, and a largish room, the ones that I looked at today were shocking and/or average.

Whats the difference between the two choices, the website is pretty useless :( ?

10 mins might be more suitable as apparently ill be going to a lot of lectures!

All I have to do is decided on Avionics or Aerospatial with year abroad

I think Durdham Hall is only your option - be warned it has the nickname Duldham and the bar is crap. But the accommodation is very nice indeed.

It seems to me that the stoke bishop halls have a pretty good atmosphere because it's almost like a campus. Your choice is a bit more limited if you want to be around clifton. The halls in Clifton aren't all together like the stoke bishop ones but Goldney is pretty nice. If you want to be in Clifton then I reckon that's the place to be.

In my first year I was in student accomodation that wasn't really proper halls. Half of it was for postgrads so it was a bit dull. My advice is to stick to the proper halls of residence.

I think the Durdham bar is really nice, it's just really quiet.

Everyone I know who went to durdham regret it because of its complete lack of social life... except for those who didn't want a social life.

Quoted for truth.

I don't know exactly what the current system for getting into halls is but I believe its first/second choice. Do NOT put one of the oversubscribed halls (Goldney, Wills, Durdham) first and second. Go for something average or crappy for your second choice like Hiatt Baker, Badock. You might end up getting bumped down to the house residences which are full of graduate students if your greedy.

My opinion on university accommodation:

Nice rooms and en suite are not conducive to socialising and getting our of your room.

That's how I ended up in UH :p
