Anyone going down the route of media extenders

I've recently started to encode my DVD library to my PC, at the moment, my photos, MP3s etc live on my PC which in turn lives in an upstairs bedroom. I would like to be able to use a media extender to bring the files from my PC on to my TV in my lounge. It is a lovely 32" HD TV attached to a PS3. I'd like to use the features of MS Media Centre in my lounge. Has anyone done this without using a fully featured Mini PC as a TV server.

I already have sky+ so I wouldn't need the TV features, and I have a PS3 with a 160GB HDD so I can already store music and photos for use in my lounge if I want to. Any opinions, ideas or thoughts?

If you dont have a direct HDTV requirement then an original xbox with XBMC makes for a very versatile (and v cheap!) solution. I've been using this for ages, just a shame it cant cope with HDTV stuff, it dies if you show it a matroska file of 720p for example :(

PS3 is nice for this and you have the bonus of blue ray and a console.

DivX support was added this week with the latest system update

Sorry just reread your post - you already have a PS3???

Just add your media servers to this and it will play everything on your PC's via wifi assumming you have a wifi router

Just to explain -
I have my router downstairs next to the TV - I plug the ethernet connection cable to the PS3 from the wifi router. All of my PCs and laptop are setup on wifi - I can then power on any of my PC's and wath films / play music from any of them on my HD TV through my PS3 - is this what you want to do or do you have an alternate setup?
