Pretty much been doing Tech support for 6 years now and not really enjoying it so was thinking maybe giving IT Sales a shot? if it doesnt work out I can always go back into support, so has anyone made the jump from support to sales? how do you find it? what sort money does IT sales normaly pay at the start?

Not personally but I see the attraction for some. Several of my friends have made the jump. My experience is that those who are naturally sales folk but have technical ability will do brilliantly, those who are naturally techie but have the ability to sell less so.

It depends on the product etc. but from what I've seen people who've supported a product are loathe to sell it - they can't overlook the faults they've spent years troubleshooting to see the benefits to the customer. If you can't see them yourself you'll struggle to sell to someone with budget to spend.

I imagine salary will vary wildly depending on location and the value of the product/service you're selling. I've seen starting wages of 12-40k plus bonus and I imagine the top end there is restricted based on the market I'm in. For corporate/enterprise solutions it could probably be much higher.
