anyone good with hijackthis?? plz read

hi guys, iv got a brand new pc (3 days old which has been flying but this morning it didnt want to fly, more crawl when trying to do anything. it got so bad it took ages to shut down, and even longer to start up!!!
iv run norton gaming edition av in safe mode and removed one threat.
iv run sptbot and removed 3 threats

iv also installed and run hijackthis (never actually used it before but know some of you can suggest problems from the info below......finally anymore suggestions

Have you run anything else since you posted that, some other scanner or anything?

Just tell me to shut up if you already know this but the ones you're looking for are the question marks and crosses, especially red crosses. Just read the description and you can usually tell if it's something you need to remove by googling the names and what have you.

Sometimes it'll flag something up you know to be fine, so it's a good idea to have a little read about to determine whether something definitely needs to go or not.

Like I said I'm no expert, but that's what I do.

Everything looks fine there now, according to the results anyway. If anyone sees anything strange I'm sure they'll post to let you know.

So what's performance like now, is it any better? If it's no better and you haven't any nasties then the problem lies somewhere else, but at least you'll have narrowed it down a little.

I'd probably run all the scanners and stuff now, just to double check everything.

Are you using System Restore on your PC? If you are you'll need to disable it and restart.

performance still very slow. iv now turned off system restore, going to reboot, then try virus scan again.

is that right?

You need to keep system restore off when you're trying to remove a virus as some of them will just come back when you restart the PC.

If you switch it off then reboot it deletes the restore point information and any virus contained within, something along those lines anyway.

So you're going to run Antivirus, Spybot, CCleaner and then HijackThis lastly just to check everything's ok?

Once you know you're clean then I'd look to try and see when the problems started, if you installed anything around the same time. Maybe also look at what start up entries you have, maybe a dodgy driver or something...

cheers m8, system restore pff and rebooted (still took ages!)
antivirus check happening now,on all partitions and in full not quick scan.
ccleaner will search for in a min and install and run
then lastly hijackthis.

its definately when starting up and shutting down it seems to not like

Is there any reason that you are using Norton?
Did it come bundled with the PC?

hi, no reason im using norton. what else would u suggest.

full scan thro the night, 1 low threat found nothing else.
spybot brings up nothing and ccleaner run and fine

its something in the start up and shutdown thats possibly wrong

getting close to a format now!!
