I'm thinking of getting one of these to go into my amp as a DAC, connecting it either an old cd or dvd player. Has anyone got one? Used/heard one? What did you think? I think they work with USB C - so i phones too!!

Yup I have it, though it is solely has a headphones amp via USB to the PC not chained to an amp in that sort of config. I have the R2r btw and there are some fundamental differences in the sound vs the non R2R so depending on the headphones you have, the R2R may be the better option, especially at only £154.

If there's any specific info you'd like to know about it then happy to answer/test etc.

I'd probably be using it mostly as a DAC. To play CDs through and from my iphone (currently Spotify but that might change to Apple Music), but I do have some Beyer Dynamic DT-770s (the might be the pro ones...) 2x25ohms which might get used.

How does music from your PC sound?

The R2R version does sound good but it's another £40. Why did you go for that rather than the standard one?

For your use you may be better off with the K11 I guess then if that's your use case. DT770 Pros are closed back, so any wider soundstage benefits of the R2R may be diminishing returns as a result. I guess you can try one out and return it and then get the R2R to sample that.

you will also need a 4.4mm cable for your headphones as the power gains is in the 4.4 balanced output not the 6.35 single ended.

Excellent, I output via USB to both boxes to satisfy speakers or headphones. It's about as clean as sound can get and 1:1 of the quality of the source file or stream itself.

Mainly because from the reviews that I watched and read from people who had similar gear to test with (Arya/Ananda Nano class planars) stated that the R2R gives that classic smoth warm and detailed sound that I am a huge fan of. It also uses the SGM 8262 OpAmps and an FPGA into the architecture is also a nice bonus.

Then having heard it after buying it, I'm sold, immensely powerful and clean/warm/almost holographic sound.

For ref this is what the architecture between the two looks like:

Thanks for this. Really interesting. Smooth warm slightly analogue sound does sound like just the ticket, and the headphones aren't a deal breaker - they're mostly for learning to play the bass so are studio cans really.

I'm really after making my stereo in the kitchen (old sherwood amp - recapped) and Elac speakers sound as good as I can without breaking the bank.

OK so the place that rhymes with flan, is out of stock, the rain forest only has them on import from the states (and is also terrible these days). Where did you guys get yours from?

So I missed out on the offer but eventually got one, and the difference over my old disc man, is incredible. I'm really noticing it in the drums and bass right now. The level of detail is really superb.
