That can tell me how it charges.
I've either got a problem with mine or
I'm doing it wrong! :-/

I was under the impression that when plugged in and the little USB symbol is showing along with the battery and it's bars of charge flashing, that meant it was charging.
Clearly not on mine as two days in a row now it's turned itself off after less than 5 mins, flashing low battery.
Eerrgh, I don't want to have to send the damn thing back to HongKong! :(
 
I have one of these little beauties ! the red LED on the front should be illuminated when charging, I never have anything on the LCD screen unless the device is switched on and charging.
 
Same as above, I had one playing up when I was in US and it was pushing 50C in the car so had let it cool down but had to take the battery out of the unit completely and back in because it didn't want to charge initially.
 
There are two options as far as I can see

1. Camera switched off - red light active
2. Camera switched on - LCD active and battery bar graph scrolling/flashing (red light off)

Admittedly I haven't read the instructions :D as you do.
By my common sense told me that if a battery symbol was scrolling bars up that was charging.
This appears not to be so.
I shall try tonight with the camera off and red light on instead.
 
Update.
I left it with just the red LED lit for a while and it lasted the whole journey home so I think I've fixed the issue. :D
