OK so since my 360 went boobies up I've had a bit of a think about the PS3 (gotta consider all options right :p ) but the problem is I've only got a VGA flat pannel monitor to use.

From what I've read it is possible to connect a PS3 to VGA via one of 3 methods.

1) HDMI to VGA converter- way too expensive
2) Composite to VGA box- mixed results, allows monitor to be used for PC also.
3) Composite to VGA cable- allows only single connection to monitor but should be better quality.

Just wondering if anyone is using any of the above methods and if so would they be kind enough to provide pics?

Thanks in advance.

Does your monitor have just a standard VGA input or DVI?

You can get an HDMI -> DVI cable or adapter.

Your monitor still needs to be capable of HDCP though doesn't it?

Correct, I forgot to mention that. If you're connecting via DVI your monitor needs to support HDCP.

bought a component to vga conveter, arrived today from hong kong. Will let you know what it looks like

What did that cost if you don't mind me asking and is there any loss in picture quality?

cost £25, got a problem at the minute though no picture :( Seems i need to switch it to HD before connecting but my tele goes green :O

Need to do some cable swapping while its on i think

got it going, required some wapping round with rgb scart (couldent do it with composite, glad i had ps1 scart cable).

Does look miles better than sd, but it does fall slighty short of the 360 through vga. Overall for £25 makes the ps3 a lot more usable.

edit: using a 22" Xerox WS TFT

Thanks for the upate Sone.

...I'm really not sure now. Whilst the thought of buying another 360 feels wrong I'm not sure after the crystal clear 360 anything else is going to feel like a step down. Then theres the cost, with all the extra gubbins and a couple of games its going to be pushing £500

*shakes fist at lack of PS3 VGA cable*

More annoyed at myself for not buying a decent TFT with DVI 3 months ago

Chances are that your TFT with DVI wouldn't have worked as it has to be HDCP compliant and very few TFTs are HDCP compliant now and they cost a lot of money the cheapest one IIRC listed on ocuk's website is going for £270 for a 22inch widescreen :(
