Simply, as topic. Wanting to grab some speakers and got my eye on these, wondering if they're a good shout. Alternatives?

Gaming and light music/TV/movies mainly

Aego 3 do look good, but £200 is quite a lot, especially if they don't improve on the cheaper Aego M sound quality. If they don't sound better, you'd be paying an extra £70 for different external aesthetics, built in DAC and Bluetooth.

On the other hand, for that money they should be well made; an area where the SP2500 is lacking when it comes to internal quality. I've seen a few complaints about the cheap PCBs and power supply. Good speakers yes, but you can see how they achieved those specs, by cutting costs on components that are vital. What's the point of having speaker capable of good sound, if the power supply breaks?

Personally, I'd take the Aego M over the SP2500 every time.

Edit: Edifier C2XD are also worth considering. Another member bought those after his SP2500 broke, and for £100, he was impressed with them.

I had the Sp2500 and I loved them but they broke after 4 years of use. There build quality isn't very good and if you google "corsair sp2500 blown" you'll see a good few of very bad support and unhappy customers. They don't last long :(

I recently brought Edifier C2XD 2.1 to replace my Sp2500 and my god! These things are amazing for £100. Beautiful crisp sound and punchy bass. They are similar or better sound to the sp2500. The Sp2500 can be a bit to bass heavy whilst the c2xd you can control the bass and treble which allows you to have a nice balance of bass and sound.

EDIT: Marsman mentions a customer, that customer is me hahaha.

Also they do have a 2 year warranty, but once that's over good luck trying to get them replaced by corsair. No really! The support is awful! Also they want you to send the unit to the Netherlands.

100 quid isn't bad, especially if they sound better than the corsair unit. I'm tempted to hit the buy button.

I've been using basic in-monitor speakers for the last few years so I would probably be blown away by proper speakers whatever I buy to be honest!

I was worried getting the Edifier c2xd I have to say as there's not many reviews.

But when i plugged it all in and played my song. You should have seen the happiness on my face because how decent they are haha.

You will definitely be blown away then haha. They are very nice looking speakers too, even my gf commnwted how nice they are lol

It's a shame, because PSU fault aside they are very good speakers. As sreeve says though, if you do a search, you'll find plenty of forums with people that have SP2500 sets with this problem. Sure, you always get some failures with any product, but when it's enough that people are talking about on multiple websites, it can't be ignored really.

Edifier have made some really good stereo speakers, so it's good to see these C2XD are also just as good. They have a built in DAC as too, which is quite a bonus at the £100 price point.

The Bluetooth connectivity and therefore the internal DAC are the only thing putting me off getting the Aego3. I don't need or want them and surprised they have added them to what are primarily desktop speakers. Who I going to need to Bluetooth from their PC? Surely most people will just plug into their mobo / soundcard / external DAC?

Maybe they are trying to market them as speakers that are not mainly aimed at desktop use with PCs and laptops.

DAC and optical connection is a good feature for people who want better speakers for their TV. Quality of a 3.5mm out from a TV is going to suck, and very few now have RCA output. On slim TVs, optical is much more likely.

Bluetooth will be useful for those wanting to use them for music as well from a mobile device, whilst also using them connected to a TV.

Sold a spare graphics card I had to fund this so gonna go for it. Can always return them if they're not what I expected at least. Cheers for the tips.

I loved my SP2500 and was very tempted to get them again when they broke but did not want to take the risk of them breaking again.

Let us know how you get on with your new speakers MooMoo :)
