Just had an Economy 7 meter installed.

Do you see any noticeable savings? I know you have to make it work to get anything from it. My PC crunches quite a lot during night time which is why I've had it.

I'll do my hovering, water heating and washing at night too. So my only day time electric will be the computer, TV for a bit and kettle.

My rates are kWh

Single meter
12.46p

Economy 7
14.30p Day
7.09p Night - 7 hours

£73 Service charge per year, 0.20p a day.

Take daily meter readings of the on peak/off peak consumption. (The meter will have readouts for both)

Do the maths! ;)

I remember many years ago working out that the "Break even" point was with the night time consumption representing about 15% of the total. I doubt if the current figures will be the same but they wil probably be in the same ball park.

(Oh, and PS economy 7 is so called because the cheap rate is for 7 hours between about midnight and 7 am (Or thereabouts, it seems to vary) Hoovering and running washing machines during the wee small hours might be considered somewhat antisocial unless you have no neighbours! (And in any case I imagine that you will have to sleep sometime too!) ;) :D )

ithink over the last year my Eco7 was £16 more than if I'd been on a normal rate. Most things in the house are as energy saving as possible and I now time the dishwasher to start after 1:30am so it picks up the cheaper rate.

My break even point is about 29% night rate and I was 23% last year.

Had it in my previous flat, presumably for the storage heaters and hot water. Pretty much impossible to make use of it any other way though, I found, because generally you'll be using or doing things when you're awake during the day.

I have and going to change soon as im not saving an6 money. Have two kids and we cant shift enough use to the evening to make it worth it.
