Anyone got an overclocked Ryzen 1700 that can help me out?

Hi all.

Just built my daughter a Ryzen 1700 system and fancied giving it a little boost with overclocking.

Watched some videos online but I am doing something wrong..

So simply want to overclock all core boost to 3.7 which from what I am reading should be easy with these chips.

So Motherboard I have is MSI x470 gaming plus max. I went into the Bios and simply changed CPU ratio from Auto to 37 for 3.7ghz which seemed to auto turn off cool and quiet (Which is needed) and then booted into windows...

installed HWinfo and run cinebench R20 and the CPU frequency seems to never go over 3ghz?

with bios at defaults and everything on auto CPU all core boosts to 3.2 as it should

also in Afterburner with bios at default overlay shows 3.2ghz but with ratio at 37 and running something like heaven it only shows cpu at 3ghz

Am I being utterly stupid or do I just not understand how Ryzen works

Are you thermal throttling ?

As an alternative HWMonitor, Ryzen Master might give you better insight into the CPU workings plus should be able to adjust your OC settings on the fly without needing reboots.

so its a bit weird.

I installed ryzen master. set CPU to 3700mhz with voltage of 1.25 volts... ran heaven and getting all cores at 3.7 no problems... temps maxxed out at 41-43 degrees and in cinebench score went up by 500 points from stock and temps maxxed out at around 58...

So went into bios and set CPU ration to 37, set cpu voltage to 1.25 and turned off cool and quiet but cant remember if I turned off PBO.. but anyway went into windows and it showed 3.70 again... weird thing is after a run of heaven I started it again and it was set back down to 3.00ghz on the next run... thinking now it might have been the MSI software causing the issue so uninstalled that but still shows 3ghz unless it set it manually in Ryzen master.

Odd i use all core clock of 3.6ghz at 1.1v. cpuz and hwinfo show its at 3.6ghz.
Also task manager shows its 3.6ghz base clock.
Have you checked power profile cpu settings make sure its 100% for max clock. Iv also set minimum clock to 100% since its next to nothing on power consumption but makes big difference to system response.
Also my cpu pulls 110w when oc to 3.6 with 1.1v. if you got more volts and clocks your gonna pull more so check if your hitting power limiter in hwinfo if you are then got to turn off current limiter and power limit in bios.
Wouldnt have thought you would be over 142w limit but then again power consumption is not linear when overclocking.
