Right i got some fittings of the MM was/are/apparently 7/16"

so i purchased some 7/16" tubing which according to EK is 12mm/16mm

for the life of me this tubing does not seem to fit the compression fittings, i can literally only get 1/30th of a turn before it pretty much gets jammed solid. Can anyone measure the opening on the locking ring that has confirmed 7/16" EK compression fittings and let me know what size it is.

Are you talking hard-line? As you haven't given an internal dimension for the fittings.

7/16" is roughly 11mm.
1/2" is 12.7mm, sometimes translates into 12mm and sometimes 13mm.
5/8" is roughly 16mm.

Edit: thinking about it, if you've only given one dimension but it's 7/16", chances are that's your internal diameter. Too thick an outside diameter tends to cause your problem.

In general, using the same brand of fittings and tubing is very wise as you can probably tell, dimensions are somewhat open to interpretation.

sorry yes we are talking flexible tube the tubing is 7/16" by 5/8" (EK STATES 12/16MM)
The fittings i have are these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-psc-compression-fitting-7-16-16-12mm-g1-4-black-wc-108-ek.html
this is the tubing i purchased https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-water-blocks-ek-duraclear-tubing-16-11-clear-3m-wc-9db-ek.html

the tubing glides over the fitting with a little force no problem, but tightening up the retaining ring i'm getting the slightest bit on the thread.

just bene digging more there definitely 7/16 fittings and definitely 7/16 tubing i've even had the caliper on the tube and fitting and both well within tolerances

It's usually ok with soft tubing to just tighten fittings until they're snug, it won't go along the way down. But I'd be concerned with less than a whole turn of thread on there.

I think I actually have some of these fittings but no matching tubing.

I've just tried pulling the tube out once it's that tight and it's going no where to be honest, maybe i'm just making a mountain out of a mole hill

I'm using the 16/12 EK ACF fittings. Using the 16/11 ZMT tubing and... everything seems to be very tidy/tight. The tube takes a TINY bit of a wiggle to get on, the clamp can be screwed right down in pretty much every case.

have you tried leaving like... almost a mm of tubing short of covering the barb, bring the ring down and see if that tightens up? If it's chewing up the thread, it's possible there's a bit of the tubing outer wall getting caught in the thread.

The stuff I'm using is pretty soft, I'd think with yours the locking ring/clamp probably does wedge against the outer wall and force the tube a little further down the barb onto the thread?

i'll try that actually, very good shout :)

im using the same fittings, 7/16 EK compression fittings with 7/16 tubing, make sure the barb is already screwed into the radiator or pump etc before adding the tube and compression fitting, you can the tighten it down nearly all the way as it squeezes the tube, you've got no chance of doing it as pictured above, its a crazy tight fit, one beauty is you know its not going to leak.

But that's a good shout, try and make sure your cuts are straight and clean, Ive had it before where even a tiny bit of the tube as you come to the end of the cut was just a bit jagged and getting stuck in the threads making it nearly impossible to screw up the compression fitting.

i'm concerned doing them up that tight in a acetal block will strip the g1/4 thread in block?
