After suffering a number of road rage incidents on the road, it it time to get a dashcam and get these people prosecuted. I have been looking at the cheapy 1080p dashcams but they receive very mixed reviews. I have also been looking at the expensive ones but don't want anything that is going to make my car vulnerable to getting broken into. The most important thing for me is a good quality image from which you can read a number plate. I had thought about a second hand action camera as well.

Has anyone got any experience with these things?

I've had a few, some cheap and some expensive. Cheaper ones tend to stop recording after a while even when using a good SD card. I would recommend a Nextbase one as they've been the most reliable for me. They also sell kits so you can easily hard-wire them into the car with a piggyback fuse. Even if you've not done this sort of thing before it's pretty straightforward, and YouTube has video guides etc.

I've had a Mobius cam as a dash cam for years. Only problem is it doesn't have it's own screen, but that means it's pretty tiny.

The cheap ones I've had just seem to get destroyed by the sun after a while. The heat kills them.
