Doesn't surprise me - as much as I love the range from MS/Logitech/Razer etc., I have always wondered about the mark up they give their range....

looks quite similair to a logitech g5 in design and layout, but cant say ive ever heard of it before

I am very tempted to buy one just to review it.

It is very similar in size and design to the Saitek I have.

at that price its certainly a bargain, and as greenlizard has stated it certainly makes you wonder how logitech etc justify their prices. i have a g5 myself which cost £50.00 new and i notice the extra thumb button on this which is a nice touch.

The 2007 edition of that mouse has two thumb buttons, and so does the Mx518 incase you were wondering :)

As much as the mice from Logitech are quality, I do often wonder why £50 for a mouse is a bit excessive. I suppose THEY justify it along with all other state of the art/"new" hardware as the mark up they use to entice those that for some reason only want the newest gubbins...

didnt even realise that the g5 had been upgraded, thought it had been discontinued and replaced by the g9, ive been using the g5 for almost 2 years now and i suppose when its been so reliable i cant compain to much about the price.

jsut for those wondering i jsut went thro the whole process to buy it to find out postage. postage is £6.95
looks good tho even for £15 all in

With the major brands your paying for the laser quality.

That one has a laser DPI of up to 2200 - the G7 ect - have 4000dpi.

Also the quality is better so at low dpi's i highly epect the DPI to be better

looking forward to the mini review :)

I have a MX518, and I love it to bits - would be handy to buy one of these for a spare as it looks a similar shape and specs..

I'm expecting the build quality to be horrendous for £8 - but I'm hoping to be surprised!

Some of the money definitely goes on the customer service aspect, pretty much every account I've ever read has lauded Logitechs CS for the fact it is efficient and pretty much 'no quibble'. I don't know how Typhoons CS compares but I've got my suspicions that it will be a bit less slick.

That said it does look like an interesting mouse and even for £15 delivered it doesn't seem that bad.

Well here we are :)

First arrival in packaging. Looks more like a design of box you would find in the pound shop. But does the item outdo the packaging?

The mouse and the lead. As you see, the lead looks more like a shoe lace. I was very suprised by the durability of it though. Very strong and extremely flexxible.

The 2 buttons on the left are positioned very well and are easily accesible by my big thumbs. The Red LED is set for 800dpi (default) with a Blue LED for 1600dpi and a Green LED for 2200dpi. It is very well even with its weight and glides along my mat with no jerks whatsoever with all 3 dpi settings.

Saitek PM12A & Typhoon head to head. For the purpose of this review, I am using my trusty old Saitek for comparison of size to the Typhoon. Its higher than the Saitek but actually feels as though your entire hand has been absorbed by it and not feel like half the bottom of your hand is dragging along the mat. Again, I have big hands so people with smaller ones would not have this issue anyway.

Well after a good look and feel of the mouse, it was time to test this baby on some fragging. The game I used was Medal Of Honor: Airbourne.

Well what a top mouse this turns out to be. Excellent tracking with 800dpi and 1600dpi. As soon as I hit 2200dpi I was all over the place. Probably due to me never using this setting before and in sniper mode it was extremely difficult to take them out with a single bullet to the mullet. I had to revert back to 800dpi and had no problems taking them out first time.

The Typhoon comes with a button to set your firing mode to 2 shots (red backlight on scroll wheel) 3 shots (blue backlight) and 4 shots (purple backlight) with one left click. An excellent choice if you want to just hit the left button once for more than one shot. Just dont have it set when throwing a grenade as you end up sending 3 and take out fresh air :o

The left a right buttons click very easily without having to put much pressure on them and I suppose that will get better as the mouse is worn in a little more. The scroll wheel is also smooth and silent when scrolling pages and the software provides options for 1-3-6 line scrolling in web pages. The software also comes with the option to set the hotkeys on the scroll and 2 thumb buttons to a wide variety of different options.

In a nutshell, I am very happy with this and found it easy to get used to after 15 mins. For £7 then this is a steal and it definately outdo's my Saitek without a doubt. After a little research, I found that it is VERY similar in design to the Logitech MX 1000.

Edit: Forgot to mention about the build quality :o

Well tbh its got some good weight to it. An hour after posting my findings and I am liking this mouse more. The quality is very good with smooth surfaces all around. On top it seems to have a mat like finish to it.

The Saitek I used is the one I bought from you...lol

:)

Haha brilliant! I totally forgot - How is old Sally Saitek doing ;)

Cheers for the review mate very interesting. Knowing the Saitek mouse - I didn't really like how the main buttons click down - what are they like on the new mouse?
