Anyone got recommendations for a carpet cleaner?

Shark EX200 came top of this test:

I have one and it’s great
Do you have to use Shark's hideously expensive cleaning solution, or can you use your preferred brand of machine cleaner? I've used Pro-Kleen shampoo (like this) with my ageing Vax for a number of years now and it performs well, especially given it's modest price.

For cars, something like a vax spot wash is good. Not so much for carpets in the house though. Personally I'd pay a pro to do them when needed rather than buy, store and maintain a large machine.

I haven’t found it to be expensive considering the performance you get with it, and the little you need to use it.

But yes you do, so it says. But I don’t see a reason why you actually have to.

I have a Vax Platinum Smartwash (pet edition) and it's a brilliant bit of kit. It's quite shocking how much crap it removes that you didn't realise was in your carpets. It comes with a nice selection of tools which are kept in a bag out of the way unlike the old Vax's were they were stored on the machine. Even better is that it's really easy to clean after use as everything comes apart.

We've had a Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution for just over 5 years now and it's been great.
The waste water tank is quite something when you use it as you don't realise just how much dirt is in your carpets.
