I know a lot of people hate this case but I love the look of it and was wondering if anyone got it yet ?

Not really gone on my Mirage 62. The front is terrible even though the pics looked great. All plastic. Don't know why I thought there was some metal in there. Plus it doesnt open very far, and when you take the door off the blasted power switch cabling and usb bits are actually connected to the inside of the door and not to the outside of the case like on the Eclipse. So you have to route the cabling from the inside to remove the door. Annoying. Cools very well though, with 3 Scythe 1200rpm fans and using the thermal sidepanel.

The 900 looks incredibe though. A huge quiet top fan, 2 quietish blue led front fans. And could replace the rear fan with a scythe and add 2 more to the sidepanel and hard drive cage.

But worried it's very plasticky though. Reviews don't really say. Plus no air filters. No idea how well built or flimsy the sidepanels are. And last but not least is there a problem with the psu cable reaching.

P.S. the Akasa is a hell of a lot deeper looking so will be fine for the G80, plus easier to put together, with removable mobo tray.

Advice please ?

Actually the psu fan usually sucks air, so it would be pulling it from your video card. So I guess the psu would get hot.

Have to wait for more reports. I think this case could be very plasticky and not an improvement in build quality over the Akasa Eclipse / Mirage 62.

I am interested in this case too.

Is the top of it plastic ? Does it feel cheap ?

What are side panels like ? Do they fit well, vibrate etc..

What about filters for the fans ?

How easy is it to build in compared to say an Akasa Eclipse which is very deep plug has the option of removing the mobo tray ?

After reading through the posts on this issue it looks like the problem only happens if you have a mobo where the graphics card is placed in the very top pci slot.

In this case the the dvi connector on the card is flush against the top edge of the slot so there is not enough clearance above the connector for your dvi cable to attach snugly.

Of course if the video card was in the 2nd pci slot, or the case manufacturer had built another pci slot into the case, above the motherboards first pci slot (ala Akasa Eclipse) you could simply remove the blanking plate in the 1st pci slot to allow you to adjust/jimmy the video card into position so the dvi connector is centred properly.

Looks like I won't be getting this case then, as I have a Bad Axe, and the video card plugs into the 1st pci slot.

Gibbo,

In the Full systems section - you advertise this case with an Intel Bad Axe mobo. Did you have any problems sticking an 1900xt or 7950GX2 into the top pci-e slot. Lots of people interested in this case, so would be nice to know.

thanks

So are you going to post pics ?

How noisy is it with all fans on low, especially the 200mm ?
Is the case very plasticky on top or solid like the P180 ?
Sidepanels - are they very thin/flimsy or heavy ?

Trying to decide if I will replace my Akasa Mirage with this.

Excellent....look forward to the pics.

Could be ordering today :)

One thing...could you measure the distance from the psu to the top edge of your motherboard. I am concerned the 12v cable from the psu wont reach and my mobo connector is on the top edge of the board.

Also - do you think the psu will suck hot air in from the video card ?

thanks

Does anyone know if the grilles on the front of the case are plastic or metal ?

And has anyone had a problem isntalling a video card into the top slot of the motherboard ?

Thanks.

I wonder has anyone used this case with a bad axe or any mobo where you have to put the video card into the first pci slot. Supposed to be a problem getting the dvi connector to fit.

There is still a concern if your video card goes into the very top slot then it may not be wide enough for the dvi connector to attach on the outside. So far have not met anyone with this particular config.

Thanks for all that info.
I really look forward to seeing some pics soon.

The motherboard you are using is an Asus P5W DH ? This has a pcie 4x slot above the pcie 16x slot that you video card goes into. This means you will always have room for the video card as you can loosen the pci bracket in the pcie 4x slot above it to centre the video cards dvi connector so the cable will attach. On my badaxe the pcie 16x slot IS the top slot. There is no pci slot above it just metal. This means if the dvi connector on my video card won't centre correctly I am snookered. However OcUk are offering this case with the bad axe mobo in Crossfire, so maybe it is ok.

Cheers mate. Thanks for the pic. Studying them now :)

It looks like an 8800gtx would be a very tight fit in that case. It's certainly not as deep as the Akasa. Pity about the hassle with the Ninja too.

What cpu are you running and how are you measuring temps (asus probe ?)...that temp seems very low even for a ninja. My x6800 at 2.93 stock idles at around 39/40 in an Akasa Mirage with 3 x Scythe 1200rpm fans.

So if I put the cpu fan on the right side of the ninja it will be be resting slightly on the 1st dimm and the fan will probably be slightly taller then the heatsink as a result. I wonder will the case close properly then ?

Does the plastic scratch easily...looking at one of your pics of the top tray it looks like there is a scratch there already ?

Thanks for the pics.

One of the high res shots of the mp3 player tray thingy...thought there was a vertical scratch on the plastic surrounding the tray.

Nice temps...29 degrees when overclocked on air to 3.1ghz plus is almost impossible to believe I would say. Think about it ? At stock speeds maybe idling at this. But I have yet to see a Conroe on air even at stock that idles any lower then low 30's. I find probe is wildly unreliable as do a lot of people. It tends to read very low. While Abit (at least on AMD mobos) used be the opposite. I think it's the bios that determines how temps are read so using motherboard monitor or speed fan probalby would not matter. But heh..if it's stable it's fine. Maybe flash with latest bios too.

The accuracy of the core temp reading on the mobo depends on how it is configured in the bios. 21 degrees idle is impossible even with 1% cpu utilisation on air, so other apps like TAT or coretemp will be similar I am guessing. You might be better off with some proper thermal probes. Even the base of the heatsink will be hotter then 21 degrees so might give you a more accurate idea of how hot your core is. I have seen this sort of thing time and time again with Asus motherboards. Also with Abit, but usually reading much higher temps.

Yeah...I tried the same mobo as the OP and got pretty low temps with Asus probe. Since, I have switched to the bad axe and temps are about 12 degrees higher. I suspect this is more realistic. Underload after folding for 24 hours on both cores they seem to settle in the mid 50's. Am happy enough.
