The council have recently changed the bulb in the street light just outside my house and it's like daylight shining into my bedroom at night now, it's a white bright lamp also as opposed to the classic warmer yellow lamp, I guess I could purchase some blackout curtains but I shouldn't have too tbh.

Anyone encountered this problem?

I used to have the same problem when I lived at home, there's a street lamp right outside one of my windows. The only option was black out blinds.

Ring the council and see if they will fit a filter that should stop the light going out horizontally as much. If they wont then the only other option is a blind/cirtains or both. I went for both a blackout blind and blackout curtains, now means i can go for a snooze in the pitch black during the middle of the day if i so wish!

A light further down my street is right next to a bedroom window, the council put a steel square onto the actual light, between the bulb and window. You could talk to them and they may do the same thing?

Contact the council with your concerns. Express your basic human right to darkness, sleep, etc or other somesuch rubbish.

It's probably what I should do really but I feel like such an old community fuddy duddy going into the council to moan about a bright street light but I guess I don't have a choice.

Blackout Blinds/Curtains are an option but being that it's a large bay window it's not going to be cheap.

Haha, for some reason the missus seems to sleep a lot these days, she also seems to have piled on around 1.5 stone all on her tummy. I think she's got a secret pie store in the bedroom and sneaks off there to eat pies when she says she i sleeping.

Blackout curtains and blinds allow me to sleep through to 10am on a Sunday, otherwise I'm wide awake at 7am *raage*. They are a god send and should be standard issue!

You're not being a fuddy duddy by complaining. Just do it. I suspect you’ll still end up with blackout lining, etc.

If your local council are on Twitter, contact them there. Sandwell Council have just responded to me immediately where their email teams ignore me!

They're even sending someone round tomorrow to look at the problem.

Green lazers pointed at the sensor on the top can work, a key to open them isn't hard to come by and you can just let loose ;)

Alternatively you could call the council and either get them to turn it off or install a shield so it only shines where it's supposed to... which you'd think would be an initial design consideration but apparently not.
