Is it just me or is it the most horrific experience ever?

Choking on your own puke struggling to breathe whilst someone jams a camera down your throat is one of the most horrible things I've ever had to endure.

Anyone else had to go through this? Is it just me being a big girls blouse?

I must admit I don't even like swallowing pills, let alone anything larger.

Only ever had them up the rear rather than down the throat but I make sure to ask for sedation every time.I had my first one unsedated and it was like having my insides stretched and burnt.

Ive never had a Colonoscopy with out sedation, call me a big girls blowse if you like, but the thought of a camera up my hoop without a sedative never entered my head, i'm just not Alpha enough. :D

As for an Endoscopy OP, how come they didn't give you the option of sedation?, my dad & brother have both had Endoscopies & they've both had the option of sedation every time.

Ive had one a good few years back, but was sedated for the procedure.
I did wake up part way through so they just slapped some more sedative in.

I had it a few years ago. They inserted the camera via my nose so I didn't get the gag reflex thing at all.
They performed it under a local anesthetic so no pain, but it's not a very pleasant sensation. Nothing to worry about really but given a choice I'd prefer not to have to go through it again.

Just take it like a man , no sedatation is required for up the pooper , throat defo

I agree it's one of the least pleasant moments of my life :p

I've had two, first was without sedation and pretty much exactly as you describe, also with a sore throat for a couple of days afterwards.

Second one I opted for the 'sedation', which doesn't knock me out but I just have no memory from just before the procedure till around 15 minutes afterwards, where my memory starts in the middle of me saying something, really quite weird. But there was no sore throat or anything, with the exception of just losing ~30 minutes of my life it was perfect.

Had them both (not the same camera mind).

I can safely say the throat is nothing compared to the back passage lol, the most weirdest feeling ever.

People saying taking the ass one need to rethink. Imagine the feeling of having air blown into your stomach then back out. Its like the feeling you have the worst diarrhea (SP?) instantly then it goes, then it comes back as they move that camera in and out around the bends. Don't get me started on the 'emptying of the stomach' routine the night before.

I had the sedative too, did nothing for me lol. The throat, he asks to swallow like 4 times as soon as you've swallowed its fine.

I had one done about 4 years ago and found it a painless non event. They gave me mild sedation in tablet form, so you are not asleep but zoned out, I remember laying on the bed and then waking up and felt nothing really.

They gave me the "sedation" didn't so anything at all.

I also had the other end done too, that was very unconfortable, but I didn't feel like I was going to choke to death.

The camera they used down my throat would neve have fit up someone's nose, it was probably just under an inch in diameter.

Worst. Thing. Ever.

I had the sedation, though still unpleasant the endoscopy felt like it took about 20 seconds, and that I was in the recovery room for 15 minutes. It was actually an hour and fifteen minutes - weird.

Yep, had one down the throat - offered sedation or numbing spray - went for numbing spray - they sort of convince me saying I was fit and it was easy - in hindsight they just wanted to clear the waiting room and not have people recovering. Had trouble getting it down but it did eventually. Funny thing is I saw a little mark on camera flexy tube about 3 feet down the flex....when that little mark went down my mouth It was a little panicky thinking it was just going on and on lol. Fill you up with air, and you do the most incredible burps, I could have said 'Manchester United' about 3 times on the trot :)
They also take as long getting the tube out as they don't want to have any ruptures on the way. Throat was sore for two days as the first 'bend' down always catches the back of the throat and often scratches it.....

good luck!

I've had tubes both ends and top end was worse. I had no sedation (didn't have a choice and didn't know any different), all I remember is eyes streaming and gagging into a kidney shaped dish.
Horrendous.
