Hi i have a 290x water cooled idle around 30-40c depending i fi have 2 monitors connected and around 60c underload, any way today i noticed on afterburner it said max temp had reached 146C
Its been left on over night so dont know when it happed, luckily GPUZ was running as well and it also max temp was 146C so it wasn't an afterburner fault.
So can a card give a false reading because im using it underload and its still not going much over 60c!
I have to point out that when i looked at the temps they were fine, it was just reporting it had at some stage reached 146c
Thanks

I imagine that is a false reading, as the card would start to melt at that temp. At least I hope it is a false reading :D

It would shut off if it hit a certain temp Borley. No idea what that is and possibly 105c or something, so I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye when gaming to double check.

my 2nd watercooled 290x does this every now and then. it sometimes also reports the fan speed incorrectly. well it reports a fan speed under watercooling so whatever it reports is wrong!

its odd though that at 146c (or as it reports) the card doesn't shut down. I would have though the thermal limiter would just kick in and stop the card. odd

Hi back again its done this another 2 times always 146C!
I went to bed late the other night around 2:30am and all was fine wnet to toilet around 6am checked and Gpuz showed on its MAx temp 146C!
Then this morning i left my pc alone for about 2 hours came back 146c max in gpuz i looked at my vrm temps and they havent gone over 45-50c.
So you would think its a power setting as its only when i left it alobne for long periods but no all settings are to never turn off!
Its very very strange perhaps try latest driver as im on 14.4.
