Anyone had the snip?

I had my snip back in the 90's and never again. (not that I could anyway.) The doctors name was Dr B Contractor  and on the day of the op there was this nurse who must have being around 67 years of age who started to shave me, which was not a nice thing to start with. Then the Dr came in and injected me and not long after that he went in with the knife and I nearly hit the ceiling, as I felt the knife cut me. Well my heart rate went up and I went very pale the Dr told me and asked if I wanted to continue? I told him just to get on with it and all I could feel then was some pulling and tugging about until it was time for him to cauterize my tubes and once again for some reason I felt it. It felt like when you place a 9v battery on your tongue, but it was a lot stronger.:(

Then to finish it all off, it hurt for nearly two weeks afterwards especially when you try and sit down for a ****.

I'm semi-tempted by this, but the main things that worry me are:

1. Chronic ball ache.
2. Psychological aspects of no longer feeling like a man!
3. Physiological aspects of hormone changes etc. (I might be making this up).

Jeez, I feel sick after reading this thread. I do not understand why anyone would ever do this!? Can't you persuade your misses to use contraception? Won't be forever and then she'll hit the menopause? If not I'd just use a condom.

It's not that bad....just like someone sticking needles in yer balls.
I was under local for mine with the premise that if I was out under general anesthetic then the surgeon/butcher could be as rough as...if I was under local then they would have to be more careful as I was watching.
The nurse smiled at and said in a I told you so kind of manner "well...you're brave"

I was only there for about 2 hours and upon leaving the nurse at reception asked how I was getting home to which I replied "it's OK, I'm on my bike" - she nearly fell off her chair...ha ha.

As I walked across the car park over to the car there was a big angry looking fella walking towards me and all I could think of was this guy kicking me in the nuts for no reason, I wonder to this day if the fear was written over my face.

Oh and it's worth having done just for the mutton-cloth jock-strap you get to wear for a few days.

I had mine done on a Wednesday I think so booked the rest of the week off.
I wouldn't recommend going jogging or anything but it was ok really, I was ok for a walk round the shops and stuff like that after a couple of days.

1: I've never had that after the op.
2: Why wouldn't you feel like a man?
3: Hormones are not affected. Male sterilization isn't like female sterilization - all the bits are still there and sperm is still produced - it just has no way of getting into the ejaculate.

Very happy I got it done.

Condoms suck and kill all the spontenaeity of sex and some women, my wife included, don't react well to drug based contraception. We talked about an IUD but I didn't want her to have one due to the possible complications and having to replace them every "x" years.

All other forms of contraception are fine if you're using them to delay having kids, but once you've had as many children as you want, a vasectomy is a no brainer really.painless op for me was a no brainer imho.

I was booked in for one, coincidentally the Mrs. had a second ectopic pregnancy meaning she had to go under the knife and lost her second fallopian tube and letting me off the hook.

I had the snip 3 weeks ago, let me tell you how it went down for me:

Initial consultancy where the surgeon explains the procedure, and then asks a number of questions regarding your home life etc.
He also explained the success rate statistics and that the operation is non reversible on the NHS, he then asked me to drop my pants so he could explain the procedure. he kind of nips the sperm tubes through your bag and says that is what will be cut, stitched etc.

an appointment was made for approximately 8 weeks later, however I received a phone call the following week saying that there was a cancellation and would I like to attend the vasectomy clinic that afternoon.

Upon arrival I was called into the consultancy room, and was given some paper underwear, and medical gown and a dressing gown and told to change into those items.

Then the nurse went through some more questions and said the surgeon would be with me shortly. He came in and went through more questions and then leg me down to the operating theatre.

I was cleaned with alcohol, then injected into the bag with a tiny needle (more uncomfortable than anything) when I couldn't feel anything he made the first incision, I felt a strange tugging sensation in the bottom of my belly and then he was stitching back up, repeat on the other ball and bobs your uncle.

The entire procedure took less than 15 minutes, I was at the clinic for less then 1 hour and could quite easily go back to work afterwards, although id booked the afternoon off.

I had sex 5 days later, and although the balls were bruised it wasn't too uncomfortable.

What you actually ejaculate pretty much looks the same, and also the same quantity, sex doesn't feel any different and I don't feel like less of a man or anything like that.

TL;DR:

Had snip, was a pretty painless affair, could go back to work the next day and also have sex 1 week later.

Any questions, just ask!
