i just got a ps1 game that i bought online and when i went to try it the console was acting like there was nothing in the drive, first thing i thought was that it might be a problem with the game so i dug out my old copy of ff7 that i had tried on the system before and its doing the same with that too

its still playing ps3 games so i dont think its the drive

Try using a DVD and a CD, and what PS3 is it? Im sure i read that they have gone from an all in one laser to seperate BD and DVD/CD laser or vica versa.

its the old 60gig model that plays ps2 games, i just tried a lens cleaner in it and it wouldnt read that, wont read a music cd either but it still reads ps2 games so it seems like cds are what its having trouble with

im trying to find a phone number for sony to see how much they would charge to repair it but i cant find one anywhere, does anyone here have it?

i just found it and the best they can offer is a refurbished console with a 3 month warranty for £160

i said "you must think im sone kind of ***t, i could get a new slim for about £90 more" and they said it was all i could do

What's to be afraid of? If you are going to be spending £250 on a silm. It is worth a try replacing the laser. Apparently it is quite easy.

thanks but a friend of mine has said he will give me £130 for my old ps3 as it still plays ps3 and ps2 games :)

ill definetly be picking up a slim now

£160!!!! cost my mate £120 when Sony gave him a refurb back in August. Looks like the price has gone up, if my 60gig packs up then that gives me a perfect excuse to buy a slim.

You're getting rid of it just because it doesn't play PS1 games or CDs?

Seeing as the Slim doesn't play PS2 or PS1 games, you're basically getting a new PS3 for the sole reason of not being able to play CDs on your old one. Waste of money or what? :p
