It started happening nearly a week ago and sometimes happens and sometimes its fine! Eventually after being like that the monitor goes black and says "cant support format, please set to 1920x1200 and 60hz"

Is this a card error? Its not oc'd or anything like that. Have checked all wires, used different pci-e power cables, changed slots in my mobo and im out of ideas? Never had to RMA anything before and this is so tempermental that i dont know what to do!

Any suggestions/thought?
Thanks

yeah the monitor says that, and no i dont have any other apart from using a dvi to vga then using a vga cable as input

Ah was just a long shot, ive known cables to cause similar problems with folk in the past.

Have you another graphics card to try? Or even machine at home/work/friends to try the monitor on?

Is it static or do the lines flicker all over like this to some degree? You can't really see it that good since the vid quality is so poor but the same horizontal lines are there, which evolves into the screen going green so fast. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IOYjBk4N3D8

It's screen corruption that ATI Crossfire cards seem to be plagued with that I've read on so many forums.

No i have no other gfx card been meaning to get a spare one incase of rma off mm or somehwere. And no other machine with dvi output unfortunatley.

No its not as bad as that, they just vibrate a little really.

i had a monitor that showed lines like that, not as bad though
are the line there if you take a screenshot ?

Don't know havnt tried, will try if it happens again! although i dont really want it to!

Have you another machine with VGA output instead? Could use the dvi>vga adapter?

Good shout on the screenshot though

I have a laptop with a vga output. So am i right in thinking, if i can screenshot it its the comp, if i cant its the monitor/cable? The main problem is its so tempermental i dont know when its going to do it!

Yeah it should mean if you can screenshot it, its on the computers end. If you can't then its the monitor.

I'd still put a wager on it being the cable, although the possibilities are endless... could be a borked output on the card lol

I get this on my hyundai w240 sometimes.
If i turn the monitor off then back on it goes away, its connected via dvi.
mine does it on bootup mainly ,normally when ive changed some bios settings?

As others have said, it looks like issues with the DVI signal. I get similar things happening if I try to run 1920x1200 over my 5m dual link DVI cable (runs perfectly at 2560x1600 as the signalling speed is lower over the dual link)

Try making a custom refresh rate (say 50hz) or a lower resolution and see if the issue still occurs. 1920x1200@60hz is very close to the maximum speed of the DVI specification. 154MHz at 1920x1200 while the spec calls for a ceiling of 165Mhz so even a small issue can cause things to be immediately noticeable.

It looks like a faulty card to me, I had an Xbox 360 which died in a similar fashion (GPU failure), it started off with artifacts and then progressed to my TV giving unsupported resolution messages before dying completely.

The monitor telling you about an unsupported resolution is just that, your graphic card is sending out a duff signal.

It may be intermittent at the moment but it will only get worse I would imagine.

Well i was running it at 59hz just to see if there was any difference, and chaged it bk to 60 i know thats only 1hz difference but made no difference! (how many times can i say difference in one sentence!)

hmm doesnt sound good, will wait and do a screenshot the next time it happens like people have suggested but if what you said happens hopefully it will be before the end of the warranty, so i still have 10 ish months!

If you can try to test your PC on a different display, when my 360 started playing up I was convinced my TV was faulty and it wasn't until I tried it on a different one that it clicked the 360 was the problem.

Well im starting to think its the cable! It did it again this morning. I print screened and it hasnt shown up. So i turned off the machine and decided to check the other dvi socket on my gfx card so i unplugged the cable and plugged it in and turned on the machine to be greated with

It has never happened on the boot sequence before. And wont go away this time. So i have hooked the monitor up using a vga cable from one of the dvis and it worked first time! Sound like the cable to you? If so is it worth splashing out the £20+ on the belkin one on ocuk? Dont mind if it means it wont happen again as i know how much cables can make a difference as i do enjoy my hifi!
Thanks all for your replies
