After spending what seems like weeks looking I've kind of settled on one of these but they're like Hens teeth trying to find one. Nearly all the Focuses are 1.0 Ecoboosts with at the most, 125HP. There only seems to be around a dozen for sale in the whole of the UK anywhere close to my £10k budget.

The focus 1.6 ecoboost 180 is pretty rare in the UK. The vast majority are 150hp variants, I gave up looking and got a 150 model and a Bluefin to bring it up to 180hp. Then again I didn't want the blingy alloys and bodykit of the Zetec S so it works a treat for me.

I always fancied the Zetec S 180. Has the Fiesta ST engine and Mountune do an upgrade for it. Seems to be pretty rare as it was replaced by the 1.5 litre on the facelift.

FYI the only physical difference between the stock 150 and the 180 is the size of the intercooler, the Mountune upgrade for the 180 to take it to 200hp is a new airbox and software, they also do the upgrade for the 150 to take it to the same power which includes the intercooler in addition to the above, cost is around a grand plus fitting though.

From memory, the cheapest option for the 150hp version is a Celtic tuning remap (200hp) at about 250 quid, followed by a Bluefin (180hp) at about 400.

I went for the Bluefin option (180hp) and performance is virtually identical to that of the e46 330i (touring automatic) it replaced, economy is around 40mpg vs 23mpg for the BMW so no complaint there!

Fairly basic equipment and crap seats, better off with a Titanium - more of them too.

Agreed, I looked at the Zetec S before I bought my Leon FR and the kit levels were rubbish and they all had halogen headlights and regular old rear lights. Interior isn't anything special either.

I'm going to look at one locally tomorrow so we will see what's what.

Does the Focus version retain the fiesta ST's over boost function as I can't see it confirmed anywhere? Is there anything else I need to look at regarding the engine?

No, the stated output is what you get. The engine code on the Focus is JQDB and Fiesta ST is JTJA, so there must be some small differences.
