Seems that not many people know that Apple issued a product recall for these and will replace a 1st gen nano with a brand new one for free. A lot of unsuspecting people selling theirs on ebay and only getting £50 (even for the faulty ones).

How long do these recalls last for?

Do Apple not clamp down if somebody is sending in 20 for replacement like these ebay guys are doing?

Yes, Yes I have. Or did I throw it in the bin?
Why did they recall it? Was it because it was terrible?

Last time I looked the OEM 6th Gen Nano Apple replace them with go for about £60 on ebay. It's not to bad if sellers are getting £50 for the 1st Gen ones whilst having none of the wait/hassle returning them.

Hmm I can't remember if mine is gen1 or gen2. All I know is that it's completely dead. I'll have to check tonight. Thanks for the heads up OP.

They usually only tend to run recalls for a certain amount of time. I remember there were a couple back with the PowerBook I had.

The first was a replacement battery.
The second was a fault on the logic board, which I annoyingly missed the window for.

I regret having sold my 1st Gen iPod Nano on eBay now.

do a search for apple ipod recall.

you will be able to enter the ipods serial number and it will tell you if it is part of the recall.

Woohoo! Thanks OP, just put my serial number in and it appears mine was eligible. It's been completely dead for about 18 months, so hopefully they'll still honour the replacement :D

Felt like a year ago I sent mine off now, no idea when it was. Took a few weeks but earnt like £50-60 from something which was sitting in my mums bedroom drawer for years (she never used it in the years she had it )
