received mine ...

and unlike review which showed

1x cable = 2 molex to 6 pin power adatper
1x cable = pci power 6 pin to pci 8 pin

mine has

2xcable = 2 molex to 6 pin power adatper

and no 6-8 pin converter ?

is this a packaging mistake or does US version come with that and UK not ?

thanks, MArk.

From what i know the card will run fine even with just 2 molex to 6 pin power adatpers, but you just wont be able to overclock it using CCC. So there is no real reason the cards cant ship with these 2 same cables.

As for your actual question, i dont rightly know, it could be either, as the card will still run fine, but wont overclock using normal drivers.

Just checked mine and it is the same as yours I have 2 of the molex to 6 pin connectors and don't have the 6 to 8 pin converter.

You can get a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter from a well known auction house, I got one yesterday - delivered the day after I paid for it. Pricey though - £14.99 for the cable :( Cheaper than a new PSU though in the short term...

thanks guys - especially nelcon

just contacted ATI - they don't provide 6-8 pin adpaters as they are not recommended

but said it will work fine wth the supplied 2x6 pins

will take this up with MSI though - seems daft to change package contents after review - its misleading

"Not recommended"... did they elaborate on why?

(I nearly went for the MSI myself for the same reasons as you)

Logically I can't see why 6-pin to 8-pin power adapters wouldn't be recommended as the extra 2 wires are just ground cables. A few PSUs have 6-pin PCI-E with a 2-pin wire "attachment" so you can choose how to use the cable - so there can't be anything intrinsically different between the two connectors.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that maybe PSUs providing proper 8-pin connectors (or the 6-pin + 2-pin attachment) are capable of providing more wattage down that single cable. Perhaps the older PSUs aren't?

I was about to order an MSI version because it came with the connecter, im not now.

Buskster, did you get anywere with MSI ?

Tempting, i just sold my GTX for £230 and can get an MSI for £260inc delivery.

I want one of those connectors though.

getting great frame rates with Crysis in dX10 mode (dx9 a bit dodgey still)

most things high apart from shaders = medium and shadows = low - averages about 25fps but is very smooth gameplay - even during explosions etc

the 850MHz core is nice :) don't let the lack of the connector put you off :)

and 2nd piccie is using some of the tweaked configs off incrysis forum - giving very high esque results at decent frame rates :)

Let me know how you get on with the latter levels of crysis. I never had a problem with the above levels on my GTS.

Aer you running at 1680x1050 ?

The ice levels really hurt the fps compared to the earlier levels on my GTS, and as for the final level Im sure i saw 8fps at one point, this was 1680x1050.
