I,m getting a little more tempted into one of these now i,m old and the insurance is not a problem. Just wondering if anyone here has one and has any opinions on what they think. I have read the reviews and watched top gear etc but its nice to get some input from owners...

Cheers

Seem to be a large number of owners of these on PH especially down south, might be worth asking some questions over there too.

I only really discovered the PH forums yesterday. I had no idea how big it was. The guy who posted his gold Phantom was legendary.

Downsides:

Poor MPG,
Poor Build Quality
Vauxhall Interior
Crap Australian Radio that can only do 0.5 mhz increments and doesnt do RDS
Not as fast as you think (VXR8 bathurst with 570bhp only managed 13.1 1/4 mile, on the same day on the same track a standard V8 with 400bhp M3 did it in 13.0 seconds)
Heavy beast (nearly 2 tonnes - explains the poorer performance figures)
Not all VXL dealers able to service them, most not bothering with. Better off at an independant, avoid backstreet garages.

Plus Sides
One of the best sounding engines on the road
Rarity / Exclusivity on the roads
Road Prescence
Very cheap servicing (http://www.monkfishperformance.co.uk/VXR8servicing.html)
Rarity has so far ensured good residuals
Incredibly practical, and near M5 performance when supercharged for half the M5 costs.
Very tunable with tons of addons available from Walkinshaw Performance (and you can keep your warranty)

Should be about it for now.

I'm a fan of these, saw one the other day around my area (first one I've seen in Cornwall I think!).

Was black, with slightly tinted windows and black wheels, boy did it look mean :D

Pretty much this one infact: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1786694.htm

Like the look of that one.. So much car for 20k...

Will have a look around the other forums. I think my mind is set and i,m going to start looking deeper into one of these. My local VX have a Bathurst S but at 40k its not ever going to be mine.. lol...

I,m considering going for an auto as well just for ease tbh. Its only fractionally slower and this is going to sound really silly but the speed is not really my main reason to buy. I like the look and the size. As it will be a family car space for 3 car seats and a big boot is a must...:D

An automatic will be quicker off the line in daily use anyway - not many can handle perfect launches all the time in daily driving, whereas in an auto you can just plant and go.

Last time i looked at the VXR forums the auto gearbox on older models was a problem. I seem to recall when the LS3 one came out i think it had an improved oil cooler for the Auto Transmission Fluid, that was never retrofitted to the older LS2 models. Older ones the fluid was overheating when pushed.

Best check on VXRonline however, as im going from memory.

Do want.

I imagined that they would have depreciated a bit faster considering they were chucking new ones out for £20k a piece on their run out last year.

They're very common over here and whilst I've not driven one, I have been the passenger in several (yeah yeah, I know). They're more polite than the figures would have you believe and slightly underwhelming. Actually, very underwhelming.

The SS is decent and the engine note is really rather pleasant but there's no sense of urgency or power. It might be completely different in the driver's seat so take my opinion with a pinch of salt :)

A mate nearly pulled the center console out with one hand when we were in one. :p

Very poor build quality.

Over there you have much better options for the price, Don't settle for one of these **** boxes

By the way if it helps you decide, the person her built the car you buy probably has no more then 3 teeth :p

Yeah, the grass isn't always greener. You can buy a far better car for that sort of money.
