Hi all

My Abit IP35 Pro on board sound seems to have stopped working after a reinstall of windows. Iv tried installing the drivers for the audio of the CD that came with the motherboard as i always do, and usually works, but the PC does not recognize that there is any audio devices attached to it. After installing the drivers i usually get that annoying realtec software in the control panel but haven't even got that.

Any ideas? Iv have a look in the BIOS and i am sure i have not messed any thing up in there but i am not that good with the BIOS so if anyone can point me in the direction of a particular thing to check that might help.

Oh and i was overclocking before i formatted, i formatted because my windows got corrupted. But i only got up to 305FSB and i didn't think it was possible to break my on board sound in this way?

what exact order did you reinstall windows, updates & audio driver in?
there's a well known problem with the MS UAA driver on many mobos with Realtek audio.

Really? Iv never had a problem before.

I installed windows, then service pack 3, then all the drivers of the motherboard cd.

that's your problem.
Try removing the MS UAA drivers if it appears in add/remove then install the Realtek drivers & then update the MS UAA drivers.

I cant see the MS UAA in my add and remove anywhere? I did a bit of reading on the net and everyone is saying to do that but its not in my list?!

I have tried the latest chipset drivers and the latest drivers from Realtek but i still have no sound. Odd thing is, i have read around this problem now and i am supposed to have this MS UAA somewhere in my add and remove and by removing that and then installing my sound drivers people are saying things get sorted. But i dont have it there at all!

This is driving me up the wall now! The only reason why i installed service pack 3 before anything else was because supposedly thats the best way to do it. Think if i cant work it out in the next couple hours im just going to format again and this time install my drivers before service pack 3.

Shame really, i have windows working nice.

Did you solve this problem in the end?

I'm having exactly the same program. (but with an IP35, not the pro edition) Reinstalled XP just now with SP3 integrated and I have absolutely no audio, even though I installed the Realtek drivers off the CD. When Winamp tries to play a file I get a message "bad directsound driver, please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration, error code 88780078".

I tried everything that i could read up on and in the end i reformatted, installed all my drivers and then installed service pack 3.

Its probably quicker! If your going to have to spend a few hours reading up, researching, and playing about like i did then its quicker to format! :(

The problem seems to lie with installing SP3 before the drivers. In my case, SP3 was slipstreamed onto the CD so I had no way round it. I'm just about to go install a slipstreamed SP2 instead, should hopefully work. :)
