Hey guys.

Just curious if anyone has had or has any experience with Pine Media. Just noticed they are based in sheffield which is where i live.
Supplying in places such as South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Kent.

They seem to be rolling out fibre to the property in these areas. You can also request FTTP under a survey. ATM it seems they don't have FTTP in my area however they offer something ive not seen offered before.

Something they call Air Fibre. I asked them about this because i was sceptical about internet over air due to possible interference? I was assuming they would be using frequencies not used by other devices such as mobiles, wifi ect. This is the reply i got.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Our 300Mb/s Air-Fibre covers the vast majority of that area. Our optical fibre there would be subject to survey as we would have to use some third party ducting.

As you say we use licensed frequencies (and not just 5Ghz) which ensures there is no interference potential (a lot less than FTTC experiences as ‘crosstalk’)

Data actually travels faster through microwave than it does optical fibre (approx 75% vs 97% the speed of light), which is why our Air Fibre has slightly better latency.

Air-Fibre is generally more reliable than FTTC as there is no reliance on ageing copper cabling, also the number of hops back to the wider internet is fewer (you would be one hop back to our dark fibre).

Pricing is generally driven by the distance from our POP. Hope that helps!

Still im kinda skeptical about this Air Fibre. Not sure how reliable it would be but it kind of makes sense it being potentially more reliable than FTTC which is my only other option.
They seem to promise ultra low pings, truly unlimited downloads and promised speeds non of that "upto" malarky.

So long story short does anyone here have experience with them? Testimonials seem good. They seem to operate in the same building as Plusnet also.

Have a look around locally and see if anybody has any antennas up on their house that look funny, ask them if they have this Internet connection.

What speeds are you getting through FTTC at the moment? My issues with fixed wireless are that it's a shared medium by virtue of how the RF spectrum works, and it's relatively easy for absolute cowboys to get involved, resulting in a terrible end product.

For what it's worth, the photos on their own website show them to be using Mimosa radios, which for the client access side of things use 5GHz (unlicensed) frequencies.
