I'm after a pair of Lambda sensors & have noticed "Universal" Types on e-bay that are far cheaper than the OEM ones, less than 1/3rd of the cost.

Anyone have any experience with these things, will I just be throwing cash away or are they just the same in functionality as an OEM part?

It's a 1992 engine with 3 wire sensors btw so nothing modern.

I've always wondered this too, forums tend to tell you 'OEM/Bosch or nothing' which is what i've done the only time i've needed one but i did think am i just throwing money away.

I'm just going to go ahead and try some cheap ones as the car is never going to be a daily driver, i have found the pair as "universal" sensors for £22 whereas Euro Car Parts has the Bosch ones at £185 for the pair.

Go on www.rockauto.com , this is where the Integra lot bought some Denso ones from. £42 inc shipping instead of £~180 from Honda.

Delivery was about 5 days too! (from the US)

We used to use the universal ones at work, but started to have trouble with them. We now use NGK/NTK ones and they seem spot on.

In your case, a wire 3 sensor on a '92 car, I expect the universal ones will be OK

A lot of the Focus ST lads use PartBox and more importantly Mister Auto. The latter has a part listed at £21 which Ford manage to charge £65+ for! It's exactly the same part with the exact same part number, it just comes in the OEM box instead of a Ford one!
