This is the results i get from speedtester.bt.com

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 224 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 92

and after about 20 mins......

DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3168 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)

Regardless of the downstream figure, i`m never able to download anything faster than 12kpbs to 18kbps.

BT tell me that there is no problem on my line. They have ran theor tests and there is no fault. The reckon it`s my equipment.

I have tried 2 netgear routers and a BT Voyager Modem in the master socket in my house and all give me approximately the same results. I can`t download any faster than around 18kbps. I`ve also bought about 30 quids worth of micro filters. All with the same result.

Anyone have any ideas on what my next step should be?. It hasn`t always been this poor. The fastest i`ve ever been able to download was approx 80 - 100 kbps but that was around 6 months ago.

It`s very frustrating and costs me £29.99 a month.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi David,

Downloading anything, even simple surfing sucks.

I download from the likes of Easynews etc but it`s imply chronic.

For example if i go to www.nvidia.com and try downloading the latest drivers i get it coming in at 15.1kb/sec

It starts at 95kb/sec and drops to 15.1kb/sec very quickly and stablises there.

Have you tried using the BT test socket behind the master socket faceplate?

TBH i haven`t tried that yet.

Really didn`t think it would make any difference tbh but it looks like i`ll need to give it a go to eliminate all possibilities.

What exactly is an IP Profile mate?

Mine sounds crap at 135k compared to yours :( :D

Just re-ran the test plugged into the service socket (socket behind the face plate) on the master socket with exactly the same poor results.

Could it be that i`m just too far away from the exchange to expect anything better?.

I remember when i first applied, they said i was at the maximum range and probably wouldn`t get full speed capability.

I also assume changing ISP would have no effect.

Approx 4 miles from the exchange, maybe a little bit more.

Not quite sure how to run those other tests and cable is not in my area.

The frustrating part is that i`ve had boradband in for approx 4 years now and it`s deteriorated year after year.

BT claim there is no problem with the line.

Very frustrating.
