hello

those 2 days of heat we had, my car was fine in the mornings, but when i came out of work , i noticed my digital part of my dash was not working, but car started fine etc

and today (Saturday) it was off again after work , and i didn't think it was that hot in the car

heres a pic of what i mean

The middle square part

dry joints im guessing as i remember last year i had little artifacts there (and i posted about it too)

anyone else's car suffering ?

this an easy fix ?

I've had it before where a vehicle sitting in intense sun all day the infotainment system will only load in a basic/fallback system until the AC has been running 5 minutes then can restart and it works fine.

Never tried to fix it as it happened so rarely.

My Lincoln does that - pretty sure it's some kind of soldering / circuit board issue as you say. I've never been interested in fixing it as the only useful information it displays is mirrored on the analogue part of the cluster.

i dont need it

but its the only clock in the car, also displays MPG, mileage etc

come to think of it, if it comes MOT time and its off, is that a fail ?

On Monday during the heatwave, my wife car was doing a odd l electrical glitch. The seat belt warning symbol system was working wrong way round. Would be beeping and flashing away when the belt was in the buckle and would be off when it wasn’t. Was absolutely fine the next day.

The car had an error saying "The Environmental Protection Filter has stopped working" which caused the car to somewhat perform sluggishly.

It was gone the next day.

Ford Focus, they're notorious for dodgy instrument clusters. At least the car's still running as usually it results in a non-start scenario.

That’s where the odometer reading is displayed isn’t it? I’m not sure what would happen on an MOT if they can’t see the vehicle’s mileage. Don’t think it would be a fail but could make for some odd looking history.

Edit: They’d just put unrecordable or similar. It wouldn’t fail an MOT with no odometer reading.

its been 15 years, so i hope it doesn't get a non-start issue just because of this heat :(
i hope mk3's are better

usual problem is dry solder round where the main plug fits into the rear of the clock (on the pins) but to be honest that looks more like the display has either come unclipped or desoldered. not had one apart for a bit so brain a bit fuzzy. last one like it i touched the plug and it sprang to life friend never came back for repair still using it.
when i say clock i mean dashpod just to clarify.

The satnav in my lorry has been acting up in the hot weather, not recognising inputs and freaking out detecting inputs that I'm not doing while driving down the road. I take it off and put it in the fridge for 10 minutes which fixes it :D

Had the same problem on my old c-max in warm weather if it was parked in direct sunlight, was fine once it cooled down.

Get similar on my Touran but mainly artifacts on the bottom row

This is interesting, as my Mrs mk 8 fiesta st had a check engine light come on (although didn't affect power). Took it to a local specialist and the error cleared itself when he tried to read it. I'm keeping an eye on it but I assumed it was weather related (he said the fiestas are pretty bulletproof). It was on Wednesday, but my Mrs isn't sure if it was there the day before or not.

in the old days :) when icd screens first came out on stereos and dashboards there used to be loads of sunlight and heat problems the tips were always to park where the display wasnt in direct sunlight or place something in front of it to basically keep it in the shade. often used to put bags or cloths in front. i know its harder with the heat but worth a try .
early displays were hit and miss as they were new tech, newer ones should..... be more reliable but i fear with everything being mass produced for pennies they may just be getting worse.
with more technology being crammed into motors it can only get worse im afraid.

I still use a reflective sun shield in the front windscreen of both cars. Regardless of keeping the electrics from melting, just keeps the interior cooler.
