Hey guys,

Back in *thinks* year 5 of school we were taught the alphabet in sign language and I remember at the time thoroughly enjoying it and I can still remember how to do it fine.

Today I had to work in an office run almost entirely by deaf people and it's made me want to go down an evening course to start learning it properly. For no other particular reason than I want to really :)

Anyone else done an evening course like this? any particular company to go for etc? :)

Many Thanks,
Jake

I know a bit.

I'm going to be no help :p

I kinda learn't the bit I know through people I worked with :) Didn't go along to any classes or anything :(

I'd imagine asking at a local college or something would be a good start?

My other half knows it being a primary school teacher with a couple of hearing impared kids in her class. She did try teaching me a bit but I couldnt get the hang of it.

Look in your local college, there will be different levels for BSL, starting from an introduction then level 1 upto Level 4 language, and Level 4 interpreting. My wife is just coming to the end of her level 4 interpreting course, meaning she will be fully qualified BSL to English interpreter soon.

Have a look on http://www.signature.org.uk for course information etc.

She works as a Communication suppor PA for a deaf solicitor in Cardiff, howerver she has done some little freelance, my wife is Lianne Lusty

why not ask the deaf people you work with who will almost certainly know somewhere you can go and get some lessons and will give you some free help, advice and training on the spot!

Because I don't know when I'll next be in that office. Was contracted in to sort out a load of IT problems :)

A friend of mine is fluent. He learnt it as his father in law to be (now just father in law) was deaf, so he learnt it just to chat to him.
