My mother has an Acer Aspire SA80 dekstop, I'm looking to put xp pro on it for her but it has a sata drive and no floppy disk drive, been told I can use a flash memory stick to install the driver.

I can't find the sata driver I need, there is nothing on the acer website and google just brings up random results.

Anyone here find me the right drivers?

Cheers.

SJ.

Sata drives should be picked up in BIOS and don't usually require drivers. Just bang the CD in, set to boot from CD and away you go.

It has a one Sata Hard Drive, that is not seen in during a fresh install, when you do a fresh install it asks you to supply the Sata drivers, something like press F6 etc.

Tried updating your motherboard Bios to the latest revision? AFAIK, SATA and IDE drives should be visible regardless of OS. No drivers should be required as the BIOS should automatically configure them for use.

It's got the latest bios, even my main machine back home needs the sata drivers off a floppy before xp will install, xp comes with very little if any sata support during a clean install.

Have a look in the bios settings for the SATA controler and see if you can set it to IDE mode. If you can you will not need to have drivers and the drive will pretend to be and IDE device.

Been there no Sata drivers for an SA80.

I've tried the bios no settings for ide mode don't forget this is one of them generic motherboards, a pre built machine.

XP SP2 won't pick up the sata drive doing a fresh install, same as my rig at home, you need to hit F6 during install and supply the drivers via floppy disk.

Vista installs fine without any drivers but she don't like Vista and wants XP back on there.
