I currently have an audi a6 avant estate, 1.8T petrol. It is an 01 plate and I've owned it about 18 months, pais £2500 for her.

In this time She's had new brakes, a new radiator and a new alternator. She's overdue a new set of tyres and has a slight blow at the front end of the exhaust.

The car itself is in great condition and had a recon engine at 104,000, she's now done 121,000.

I recently found out that the heater exchange needs replacing, as when the heater is on plooms of steam come shooting out the fans. I've been quoted between £500 and a grand to get this fixed.

Question is this. Any idea if i'll be able to sell it with the issues? Should I just get it fixed and persevere with the car?

I would only be able to spend about £2000 on a new motor due to other commitments at the moment. Haqve been looking at Honda accords and (shush) The diesel rover 75's.

Any thoughts on the best route to take?

The question you have to ask yourself is, can you replace your car for the cost of the repairs with a car that is a) as good, and b) is 100% guaranteed to not give you similar repair costs within months of purchase?

I guess the short way of explaining the above is, fix it and keep it, as you'll not get anything better for your budget.

Granted my A6 is the next generation, but I would rather slit my wrists than change for a Rover 75 (as good as they are).

500 quid to repair what has otherwise been a fairly reliable car or 4 times the amount for an old diesel rover that could have just as many issues? Shop around for the repair and get it sorted - its a lengthy job as I imagine the dash will have to come apart, but you will be losing coolant so it's worth doing
