Hi guys

got given an old pc with a 3gig p4 6800 ultra gig of ram etc.

just moved all the parts from an old case to a new case and thats all thats changed, power supply, components all the same

The problem is when i try and boot the pc everything except the usd ports and the video card is not cumming on although the fans are all working so the mobo is getting power but it seems the usb and agp slot is possibly not, all the fans i got ( cpu and one rear fan ) are getting power from the mobo and the light on the pci wireless lan card i got is o so thats getting power, im just getting no usb power nor monitor is not booting

any ideas what it could be?

just noticed when i quickly flick the power button the usb mouse i got flickers for a split second with power, could it possibly be that the mobo screws are shorting the board somehow?

i havnt got any of those small thin bits of paper? or whatever it is that sits between the screw heads and the mobo could that be shorting it?

so you have 3 gigs of ram, its a p4 cpu, a 6800 ultra. I got that right? just weird seeing "gig of ram" on the end of that without any commas lol

so the only thing that is different is the pc case? did they say it worked before? I would say the card in agp is loose but Im assuming you've already checked that :p

try switch the gfx cards around with your pc and see if that changes anything - at least then you will know if its a mobo/gfx card issue

in regards to the usb problem Im not sure. check bios to see if they are disabled. if they are internal usb check the pins are not bent etc.

thin bits of paper arent really a problem - as long as the motherboard itself isnt touching the screws. the screw holes on the mobo are not attached to any conductor like material on the motherboard so that wont be it. and if it was shortening out - you'd know about it ;)

it sounds like a gfx/agp problem tbh. if you have another gfx card it might be good practice to see if the gfx card supplied is dead.

Check that nothing is shorting out the system, any thing metal touching the motherboard or a contact can cause it to short out and not boot.

Might be worth taking it out of the case again and double and triple check everything.

right i tried the whole lot outside the case and even connected one of the usb extension from the mobo and plugged that in and still no power to the mouse....

sounds the the mobo possible gone or psu dammit!!

depends on what its connected to but as I said - its powering your pci's etc so its giving power - thats all it needs to do unless its not giving enough. but you havent added anything to the setup.
