So, I might be starting the CFA in September. If not, possibly the AMCT, but I really like the look of CFA. Anyone qualified, or know if it's as hard as i've heard?

been looking at that, trying to find a cheap book, no need for the course. if you did economics then over half is done for you already.

Is it that easy?

I was under the impression it was the same level of toughness and learning of prof. accounting qualifications?

If so I wanna do it!

It's hard. The volume of stuff to learn for level 1 is considerable. The pass rate is also roughly 1/3 at the moment. Depending on your academic background you may already have covered many of the topics, but it's virtually impossible to pass it without preparing for it specifically. Website has all the info you need, and more.

Respect to anyone who passes this. My company pays for he course and materials as well as a few hefty bonuses for completing each level.

Some extremely intelligent people I know spend vast amounts of time working towards this and still don't pass. The dedication required is quite considerable!

i've known people who didnt do well in the a levels past this 1st time. i remember a guy with a 2:1 in maths couldnt pass the sfa exam took him 4 goes to pass it.

the exams are tough, the pass rate is something like 42% but i think thats a little misleading as most people who do it work in FS and often work mad hours anyway ( i know I do) and its hard to study on top of that.

I'm working toward level one in december, level 2 in june next year and I haven't found the material hard so far, although insanely i'm doing ACA at the same time.

DO YOU HAVE A LIFE?

DO YOU HAVE A LIFE?

I do surprisingly. ACA exams come in big chunks and I've found the material easy so far. CFA i covered a fair amount of it an uni and i'm using 3 weeks of holiday before the exams to study for it.

My life is mainly work and study and I have zero chance of sustaining a serious relationship, but at the moment i'm focussed on my career and I know I want to get to the absolute top and am willing to sacrifice things at the moment to get there.

from what i've seen a lot of the advanced ACA stuff overlaps with CIMA, and I'm planning on doing an MBA at some point which I think will be more useful.

I chose CFA simply because I work in FS and want to stay in the industry and felt it more useful long term.

Currently making my way through the financial planning course with the CII. After that will be doing the IMC might see where i will go from there. I also thought about stopping after the financial planning cert and going into IT but i dunno lol

Thanks for the links Mattheman. I've just finished my Accounting and Finance degree so the material isn't alien, though I can see it's clearly difficult. I really want to do ACA, and get 5 exemptions from my degree. My new employer doesn't seem to want to offer it.

BUSH - did you do an economics degree or similar? Just wondering as you said you haven't found Level 1 hard so far.

Yep CFA is a good cert to do, i even think you can get a few exemptions on that. from what i understand a the problems parts are the quantitative parts and the understanding financial products.

Those types can be done at home no need to join a course, £75 for the book and £150 for the exam.

Yeah i know I didnt mean go on an actual course they are far too expensive and they only do them in England. My work is paying for course books and the exam. Needing to get my head down since I only have until August to learn the 16 chapters lol
I already am already qualified for mortgages advice and protection. Currently doing Investment and Risk which is going to be a lot better than pensions.
